I guess I could do an update here occasionally...so we'll just call this my bi-annual update. Things are good...they could always be better...but they are good nonetheless.
As you all know, I got engaged this past December...so no news there...still engaged...and going crazy as the months count down.
Had a nice "family" vacation to Clearwater Beach, FL back in March. It was me, my love Shaun, his mom and stepdad, grandma, sister Kristin and her bf Tyler, and brother Ryan and his gf Steph. My first time to Florida, and I loved it. We almost didn't come back to the cold March weather of Wisconsin...no really, Shaun was playing with the idea of getting a job in construction down there (as there is construction EVERYWHERE-they're tearing down all the cute beachfront motels and resorts to put up million dollar high rise condos)...we REALLY almost didn't come back. But the cold of Wisconsin won out to the hot, humid summers of Florida.
We now have about...hmmmm...15% of our wedding planned...lol. The colors will be light green with pink accents. We have the wedding party picked out. In May we decided on a location for both the ceremony and reception (Weissgerber's Golden Mast on Okauchee Lake), and the DJ (Music Masters Entertainment). And about a month later, decided to go with the officiant who married BOTH Shaun's mom and stepdad, AND dad and stepmom (Reverend Edmund Kurth of Pewaukee).
My next step in dealing with all this wedding crap, is finding a photographer who is still available for our date...which is proving to be a big hassle, as it's become apparent that a lot of other people had the brilliant idea of picking 6-7-8 as their wedding date. I'd like to find someone for under $2000, who doesn't do photography as just a "side job". Everything else...flowers, cake, dress, limo service...will just fall into place...hopefully.
In August, I turned 30...yay.
In August, Shaun's mom also threw us an engagement party to end all engagement parties. She managed to bring together her side of the family, and Shaun's dad's side of the family for the first time since they were married, and my side of the...oh wait...nope, not my side of the family...just my mom and stepdad :-/ It was a very nice party though...much more than I expected.
In August, I also took the initiative to reconnect with my best friend from college, Renae. There was a time for about 10 years when she and I were inseperable. Then she got married and had a baby, and I...well, I had Spence...and we just kind of went our seperate ways. After all was said and done with Spence, she wasn't really able to be there for me the way I needed her to be, and we lost touch. She had made an effort to contact me in October of last year, when her brother (once practically my brother), Randy, was hit by a car, and died the next day when the decision was made to take him off life support. I guess I was scared to talk to her again because it had been so long, and it was such a strange way to reconnect. So, stupidly, I waited. When I contacted her, she said things, I said some things, and she said some more things. No one was to blame, life just took us in different directions, and we're now working on picking up the pieces...slowly but surely, we're getting back to the way things once were.
Sadly, I also found out that a good friend of ours, and ex bf of hers, from college had died back in February. Ethan was in a car accident and killed by a drunk driver, in LA. He attended UW-Oshkosh with us, and partied with us, and was the best friend anyone could ever have...but that part of his life seems to have already been dead to everyone except the friends he touched the years that he attended school there. Anything you read about him will only touch on his success as a recording engineer in LA...his real success was through the friends he made long before that. Nonetheless, he accomplished the goal he set out to acheive before his 30th bday...to be nominated for a Grammy. He was nominated in 2007 for album of the year for his engineering work on Jusin Timberlake's album (but lost out to the Dixie Chicks...lol). He was killed the day before his 1st wedding anniversary, and left behind a beautiful little girl, a wife, and step-daughter. If you get a minute, please check out his memorial page. He will always be remembered for what a huge heart he had, and that contagious smile.
Other than that, life remains the same. Hopefully next time I update here, will be with news of a new job :)
