Side by side they're walking in front of me, only breaths of space between them. Every once in a while they'll brush hands or close the already small gap between them.
After a battle she'll walk up and lean into him, resting a hand upon his shoulder. By the campfire he'll rest his arm on her back or pull her closer around the center. These actions seem so natural; they don't even seem to notice.
When I chanced upon the two, it didn't take long to realize that Kagome-sama was beyond my reach. (For indeed I did pursue her, InuYasha is a lucky man regarding Kagome in a corporal sense as well.)
I soon discovered they hadn't known each other long. Although they bickered more than they held each other (and I found there were times they would bicker while holding each other), they already had found something marvelous in one another.
As time went on I had the privilege of watching that bond strengthen and grow.
Trust and devotion so deep Naraku's all-too-clever plans could not diminish it. Love, young and innocent, but steeped in genuine emotion. And loyalty. They followed each other everywhere, even through time itself.
I glance to them once more. They've stopped, as InuYasha gestures for Kagome-sama to climb upon his back. With a smile, she does so, her arms around his waist. Averting my eyes, I note a small tear in the bottom of Kagome-sama's shoe.
She's not said anything and he noticed, solving a problem she hadn't even felt worth mentioning.
Kagome-sama and InuYasha may not yet know the depth of the loyalty between them, but perhaps they don't need to.
They act upon it just the same.
