The Formphasers: Dirge of the Dragons

Stage Eleven: No Matter What, I Love You

“There is no reason why we cannot attack from the side just as well as we can attack from the front.”

“We are vulnerable to the west if we do!”

“We are vulnerable everywhere.”

“Hankyung, fetch me another beverage.”

Jongwoon, Eunhyuk, Sungmin and Kyuhyun were all debating the best battle positions while Ryeowook, Hankyung and Heechul were all sitting in for lack of something better to do.

Hankyung left the room in order to find something that would quench his mate’s thirst. Ryeowook flipped another page of his book while Heechul glared at the floor as if it was an insult to him.

“We need Youngwoon,” Kyuhyun sighed frustratedly. Normally, Youngwoon would be here. He was their best strategist and most skilled at battle formations. But he had not been seen since he had put his mate, Jungsu, to rest in the ground.

It was easy to see that Youngwoon’s life had centered mostly around Jungsu and when he had passed on, there was nothing left for him. The only reason they knew he was still alive was that they could sometimes see his silhouette at night, pacing back and forth.

“I want you to know something,” Heechul announced, standing up to face the four who were poring over the maps on the table.

“What is it?” Jongwoon asked distractedly, taking a ruler and measuring the distance between to places and jotting down the space.

“I want Hankyung out of first line of defence. I refuse to allow him to take that position,” Heechul stated.

Sungmin bit his lip. “Heechul, he is best suited to front lines because he has the skill to hold off the dragons. Before you two mated, he was part of the Feline Militia. If you ask any canine, he was a formidable opponent.”

“Be that as it may, Hankyung is not part of the Militia now. Hence, he has lost his battling skill. I propose that he be put in the secondary line of defence. If his skill is now less than that of first skill, he should not be in the front lines.”

“Can we debate this later? There are other things we must attend to,” Eunhyuk piped up. Sungmin turned his attention back to the maps on the table. Heechul huffed and sat back in his chair, waiting for the return of his mate.

Ryeowook looked up at his hyungs and smiled sadly. How many of them, he wondered, would be dead in two days? It was a morbid thought. Hankyung slipped back into the room and handed a glass to Heechul who took it angrily, drinking the contents in one swift gulp.

“What is the current plan?” Ryeowook asked, losing interest in the literature he was currently pursuing. Eunhyuk beckoned for him to walk over.

“First, we thought about attacking with the Imperial Battalion and then having the archers launch arrows into the enemy from above. If the dragons decide to go on the offensive, we have three divisions of one hundred soldiers waiting in the wings and five regiments of fifty soldiers for backup,” Eunhyuk explained.

“Because Jaejoong and Yunho told us that they used fire to burn the ground, will wear hard leather boots and gloves which are changeable if we wish to phase. This way, we will not burn our paws or feet,” Jongwoon added.

“However, we are not sure where certain troops should be situated. If we put the five in a semicircle around the battling soldiers, there will be a greater chance that they have more opportunity to attack,” Sungmin jumped in.

“But, if they are in a semicircle, that leaves less area to fight,” Kyuhyun pointed out. Ryeowook was puzzled.

“There is a slight problem I have been wondering about. If you send the Imperial Battalion in first and then have the archers shoot arrows towards the enemy, isn’t there a chance that the archers might hit our warriors as well?” Ryeowook asked. The four men looked at the map.

“Now we must reconfigure the entire strategy,” Jongwoon moaned. Sungmin wrinkled his nose in aversion. He did not want to plan a whole new strategy.

“This is why we need Youngwoon!” Eunhyuk exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air, giving up entirely.

“We have two days until we meet the Komodos in battle. We cannot leave this until the last minute. Why do we not have a plan?” Kyuhyun demanded. The other three looked at the Alpha of Canines as though he had grown another head.

“Because we do not have Youngwoon,” Sungmin answered softly. It was true. They did not have the strategies that Youngwoon thought up. Kyuhyun was brilliant by nature but he did not have years of experience in strategic battle plans. He had mostly been in the battles, carrying out the plans somebody else had created.

“Excuse me, I have a question,” Heechul interjected.

“What now? We already told you that Hankyung must be in the first line of battle,” Eunhyuk said. Heechul narrowed his eyes at him.

“I wanted to know if he was placed in the Imperial Battalion.”

“Yes, he is. Since he was once in the Feline Militia, he has hence been placed in the Imperial Battalion,” Sungmin explained.

“Very well, that is all I wanted to know,” Heechul said icily. Hankyung looked at his mate, his eyes clouded with confusion.

“Why did you want to know such a thing?” Hankyung asked. Heechul didn’t respond.

“He didn’t want you to be first to charge at the enemy,” Jongwoon answered. The panther nodded in understanding.

“Why did you not want me to be first?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Perhaps it’s because I don’t wish for you to die?” Heechul snapped. Hankyung smiled at the Bengal tiger. He lay his head against Heechul’s shoulder.

“You know I will be fine. I have to be, you would murder me otherwise,” the panther smiled. Heechul said nothing but shifted in his chair.

“How about we call it a day? If we get ideas, send a message and we shall reconvene here,” Jongwoon decided. The other three nodded. Kyuhyun slipped an arm around Sungmin’s waist. The jaguar leaned into Kyuhyun’s side as they walked out of the room.

“We have no plan to fight with. What are we to do?” Sungmin asked worriedly. His mate squeezed him lightly.

“We shall think of something. Eunhyuk and Jongwoon have been in battles before,” Kyuhyun answered.

“Yes but it was Youngwoon who always strategized.”

“We will be fine.”

“Kyuhyun…do you really think we will be ready for this?” Sungmin looked at the wolf in complete uncertainty.

“Look, our troops are practicing now, sparring with one another as we speak. We shall be fine,” Kyuhyun stated firmly. Sungmin looked at the large amount of soldiers practicing with their swords, spears, maces, crossbows, and large assortment of other weapons.

“Ah, just the rulers I wished to see. The Captains of the Eagles and Chieftains of the Bears wish to see you,” Donghae announced, popping up behind the other two.

“Should you not be practicing with the others?” Sungmin asked.

“Yes, technically I should be but I needed to feed my fish,” Donghae explained. The two monarchs smiled at the odd canine.

“Where do the eagles and bears wish to meet us?” Kyuhyun asked.

Donghae waved his hand in the air in the vague direction of the front of the castle. “They said they wished to see you in the main hall.”

“Thank you, we shall be there momentarily,” Sungmin smiled, poking Donghae lightly. The dingo grinned and skipped off to wherever he was going.

“I wonder what they would like to see us about,” Kyuhyun mused.

“I don’t know. Perhaps they wish to know of our plans?” Sungmin suggested.

!*!*!*!*!

The two monarchs entered the main hall where Jaejoong, Yunho, Zhoumi and Henry were seated on the floor, talking fervently amongst themselves. As soon as they saw Sungmin and Kyuhyun enter the room they rose, acknowledging the presence of the two rulers.

“Greetings, we see that you have received our message,” Jaejoong bowed. Sungmin rolled his eyes.

“You know that you don’t have to bow to us. We are practically family,” Sungmin pulled Jaejoong up.

“In that case, you will agree with what we have to say,” Yunho said, coming up to his mate. Henry nodded eagerly and Zhoumi smiled brightly.

“What is it?” Kyuhyun asked warily.

“We wish to fight alongside you in the battle,” Henry announced. There was silence in the room. The happy smiles of the four royals almost overwhelmed Kyuhyun and Sungmin who were standing there in shock. It was a while before either could speak.

“P-p-pardon?” Sungmin stuttered, completely stunned.

“We wish to fight with you in the battle against the Komodos,” Yunho explained slowly and carefully.

“No, that I understand. What I do not is why,” Sungmin responded.

“You said that we were practically family right? Well, if that is the case, then we should fight with you. Families stick together and we shall be no different. Together we shall drive back the scourge that plagues our lands,” Zhoumi stepped forward next, his expression becoming determined.

“Wait, please think about this. You have lost many people to the dragonkind already and by helping, you will lose more,” Kyuhyun pointed out. Henry nodded.

“That is true but I know that our people would prefer helping in the war than standing by and watching others die for them. Not only that, we have seen these enemies before. I would bet a great amount of my treasure that our people would want to sink tooth and claw into this enemy as well,” Henry’s eyes widened happily at the mention of hurting the dragon race.

“The same holds true for the eagles. We were burnt out of our lands with their fire. We wish to settle the score. Most of our soldiers are renowned archers and we can attack from the sky as well as on land. We shall give those scaled beasts a taste of their own medicine,” Jaejoong vowed. Zhoumi and Henry nodded in agreement.

“That is why we wish to fight with you. After all, we cannot let our friends go into battle alone now can we? If we are friends and family, we shall go together as one,” Yunho finalized.

“Have you really truly thought about this?” Sungmin asked. He did not want his friends to die needlessly in a war that they were not responsible for starting. The four monarchs dipped their heads in confirmation.

“We have discussed this thoroughly and fully. We wish to be at your side during the battle. We want to be there to congratulate you for defeating the dragon forces,” Zhoumi confirmed.

“We may not defeat them. That is a high possibility,” Sungmin tried not to sound pessimistic.

“We know and understand that. And if you do not, we will fall together,” Jaejoong took Sungmin’s hand. There was a low growl from Kyuhyun which the two of them ignored. Even though Kyuhyun’s possessiveness was part of his heat, they were more concerned about the matters at hand.

“I do not know what to say,” Sungmin choked out, so touched that their friends would do that for them.

“Do not say anything. We just wanted you to know that we will stand beside you,” Henry said, looking at the rulers of the canine/feline kingdom.

“Thank you. We are in your debt. We truly have great friends,” Sungmin grinned.

!*!*!*!*!

Sungmin and Kyuhyun overlooked the training of the soldiers. Hankyung was using a sword with two hands, hacking away determinedly at the strong wooden post set in front of him. In the next squadron over, Heechul was shooting at moving targets.

Eunhyuk was wielding a two handed spear and Donghae was sparring with him, a mace clenched in his hand. Jongwoon was instructing some soldiers in the next ring over, showing them how to use two swords to good effect.

“Our troops train well,” Sungmin murmured. Kyuhyun nodded. His arms were wrapped around Sungmin’s waist and the two were watching from the windows of the palace.

“In one day we go to war,” Kyuhyun sighed, shifting position. Sungmin heard the nervousness in his mate’s voice. He chose not to question it, knowing that Kyuhyun would eventually tell him in his own time.

“We are well prepared,” Sungmin said.

“No, we are not. We have no plan to go into battle with. And now, with even more troops to think of, we have to make sure everyone is evenly distributed,” Kyuhyun pointed out.

“Is that what’s worrying you?” Sungmin asked. Kyuhyun made no reply. “Kyu, worry not. One of us is bound to come up with a plan.”

“Who? They are all training, we have been training and it will be a miracle if we even have a plan before going into battle!” Kyuhyun exploded. Sungmin looked at his mate. “I’m sorry. I should not have taken out my frustration on you,” Kyuhyun apologized.

“We are all stressed. You need not apologize,” Sungmin stood on his tiptoes and placed a kiss on Kyuhyun’s mouth.

“I still say that I am sorry. But we should call everyone together so we can go over a plan,” Kyuhyun decided. Sungmin nodded. It would be nothing short of a miracle if they had a plan by tomorrow morning.

!*!*!*!*!

“Did you do this?”

“No, I was training all day. Did you?”

“We only decided to join now!”

All the monarchs were gathered around the table in the main conference room, pouring over a map that had positions, battalion location and attack formations scribbled all over it. None of the monarchs or generals had written on the paper.

“Look, there is a note beneath the map,” Jaejoong pointed. Kyuhyun retrieved it and began to read.

“The eagles know the terrain best so they should be positioned at the very top of the cliff that overlooks Eagle Sabres. This way, the archers can get a good takeoff position. They will attack from the air first using poison coated arrows. Four battalions should make up the initial charge. The Imperial Battalion will be one of them.

“Once the first attack has been made and the strength of the first four are fading, then the second infantry and line of defence should be put into play. These two should come from the sides in the surrounding forest. There is a very little clearing here. We are fighting on eagle lands and therefore, they should be placed at the most strategic of places. They will know where those are.

“The bears must be part of the second infantry. This is because their power and strength lasts longer once most of the force has been disabled or killed. All claws should be dipped in the poison to increase risk of fatalities for the Komodos. All bears should have steel weapons. They provide much more efficiency when in hands of the bears.

“Once the second attack has been led, allow the third to move. This will be the last surge of soldiers. Five other regiments will stay for backup and protection of the castle and people as a fallback. Make it a point to find the weak spot of the dragons. It is unknown as to what that point is but try to find it quickly. The details of how the soldiers will move is drawn on the map.

“Please forgive me. I need time. I will try to fight with you but I am still in too much pain. I ask your pardon.” Kyuhyun finished. The note had been written in Youngwoon’s unmistakeable scrawl. They had a plan. Youngwoon must have heard of their troubles and helped them.

“Well, now we have a plan,” Jaejoong said quietly. Yunho put an arm around his mate. Henry looked as though he was trying not to cry and Zhoumi was analyzing the plans with Jongwoon and Eunhyuk.

For most of the evening, the monarchs and guards looked at the plans and decided upon which squadrons would be in the front lines, secondary lines and third lines. They assigned different weapons to different soldiers and made sure they had enough armour to go around.

“I think we should call it a night. We have a foolproof plan and a good following. We need rest before a battle such as this,” Yunho suggested. Jaejoong nodded.

“All in favour of taking leave?” Zhoumi asked. Everyone agreed. They bade each other good night before heading to their suites.

!*!*!*!*!

Sungmin entered their room, followed swiftly by Kyuhyun. His body was tired but tense at the same time. He was dreading the day to follow. Those who had spoken to him in the room might not return after they marched into war.

“Are you tired?” Kyuhyun asked, looking at his mate. Sungmin sighed, shrugging his shoulders lightly. His body was tired but his mind was buzzing with a thousand different thoughts.

“Not entirely. Once I lay down I will sleep,” Sungmin answered. He looked out the window to the dark night outside. Kyuhyun made a soft noise in his throat. The jaguar looked back to his mate. And was caught in the deep, dark eyes of Kyuhyun. He swallowed. The temperature seemed to have risen a few degrees.

Sungmin watched as Kyuhyun blinked, his eyes slowly closing and opening. There was an unspoken agreement between them. Sungmin felt his body yearn for the male standing opposite to him. There was so little time between next morning and tonight. He felt his inner self call for the wolf across from him.

Kyuhyun and Sungmin stared at each other. Sungmin could feel the burning need for touch spark through his whole body. At the end of his heat, he always craved touch more. Kyuhyun’s heat ended when he mated. Tonight, one day before the war, they would bind themselves together and relive their promises.

Sungmin stood silently while Kyuhyun walked forwards. His eyes closed as he felt Kyuhyun’s hands slide down his sides. He registered the sounds of Kyuhyun lifting his shirt and he raised his hands to make sure that it was easier for his mate to remove his clothes.

The cool air hit him and he shivered slightly, his skin roughening as goosebumps appeared. Kyuhyun ran his fingers along the length of his spine, applying gentle pressure as he did so, causing Sungmin to gasp softly.

“You are sensitive tonight,” Kyuhyun murmured. Sungmin swallowed.

“Does that displease you?” Sungmin asked.

“Not at all,” Kyuhyun breathed, the warm air from his mouth ghosting over his mate’s skin. Sungmin sucked in a breath of air. His need for touch grew stronger with his mate only a few inches away.

“I love you,” Sungmin whispered, looking up at the taller male. Kyuhyun blinked before a smile spread slowly across his face.

“I love you too, Kitten,” the wolf replied. He pushed on Sungmin’s chest, guiding him towards the mounds of pillows and blankets on the floor. Sungmin was lowered gently onto the bed and he looked up at the tall canine who was observing him.

Kyuhyun knelt beside him and leaned forwards, licking the expanse of skin that stretched from his jaw to his collarbone. Sungmin let out a soft breath of air. His whole body tensed as Kyuhyun ran his fingertips along his side.

“Kyuhyun, join me,” Sungmin whispered. Kyuhyun smiled at him, his eyes gleaming in the dim light of their room.

“As you wish,” Kyuhyun brought Sungmin’s hand to his collar. The feline skilfully undid the clasps that held Kyuhyun’s shirt in place. He turned his attention to the pants that Kyuhyun was wearing and had them off in one swift movement. He wasted no time in running his hand over the body of his mate. Kyuhyun’s muscles rippled underneath his touch.

Sungmin bit his lip as Kyuhyun pushed his hand away and shifted so that he was hovering over him. There was brief pause as they stared at each other, their bodies and souls yearning for each other. Sungmin pushed himself up and tentatively pressed his lips against Kyuhyun’s.

That small touch seemed to spark something in the other male who pressed against Sungmin harder. The feline let out a soft growl as he felt Kyuhyun’s body press fully against his. The kiss grew deeper, hotter, and warmer as they began to move against each other. Their erections brushed and sparks shot through their veins.

Sungmin broke the contact with a gasp as Kyuhyun ground his hips against him. He threw his head back lightly, arching into the touch. Kyuhyun smirked as he bent his head and traced intricate patterns with his tongue. Sungmin’s hands fisted the pillows beneath him as his blood rushed to his erection, making him harder than before.

“Don’t…don’t tease,” Sungmin breathed. He could barely take it. He wanted Kyuhyun in him now, to fill him and complete him like only he could.

Kyuhyun chuckled; a playful but mocking at the same time, “But I enjoy teasing you.” Sungmin groaned in response as his body reacted once more to Kyuhyun’s teasing fingers. The jaguar removed Kyuhyun’s hand from his stomach and guided it towards his mouth.

With deliberate slowness, he parted his lips and let his tongue slip from his mouth. Curving his tongue lightly around one of Kyuhyun’s fingers, he directed the slim appendage into his mouth. There was a slight intake of breath from Kyuhyun who watched with growing desire as Sungmin gently sucked on that finger, coating it with saliva.

Sungmin looked up at Kyuhyun, his long lashes fluttering. Kyuhyun swallowed. His mate looked so innocent and fragile but at the same time, so sinful that it made him throb with want. He pulled his finger gently from Sungmin’s mouth and grinned.

The feline took the hint. He leaned back and spread his legs for his mate. A cool breeze from an open window did nothing to cool his body. In fact, it only served to heighten the feeling of heat inside of him.

“Kyuhyun…” Sungmin’s voice sounded small and almost afraid. Kyuhyun looked into the face of his mate, his eyes searching. The jaguar looked away, suddenly shy. He swallowed before completing his sentence. “I need you.”

The canine could never tell Sungmin what those words did to him because he himself couldn’t explain it. Instead he leaned forwards and kissed Sungmin hard, trying to let him know just how much he loved him. Soon, kisses wouldn’t be enough.

“I love you,” Kyuhyun answered. With utmost care he settled himself between Sungmin’s parted legs and gently rimmed his lubricated finger around Sungmin’s pink hole. The feline gasped, his eyes opening wide as hot slivers of pleasure sprang through his body.

He half-phased, ears growing, green eyes burning, claws forming and tearing at the bed of pillows underneath. Kyuhyun semi-phased as well, golden eyes smouldering with absolute love and desire for the one beneath him.

The lubricated finger was pushed inside, a long nail scraping gently at Sungmin’s inner walls. A second, un-lubricated finger pushed inside of him, stretching him more. It was uncomfortable but it was bearable. Sungmin bucked, trying to get the wolf to speed up the preparation process.

“Have me as I am…I am ready for you,” the feline panted. Kyuhyun looked at the view before him. Never would there ever be a sight more beautiful than the flushed, vulnerable male that lay on scarlet pillows just waiting to be taken fully.

“Are you sure?” Kyuhyun asked, running two fingers down the side of Sungmin’s face, still stretching him with his other hand. Sungmin turned into the touch, nodding as he did so. He blinked, green eyes trusting.

“It’s you, Kyuhyun. With you, I am always sure,” Sungmin purred. He reached up and entwined his hand with Kyuhyun’s free one, tangling their fingers together in a sign of assurance. The canine nodded and withdrew his fingers from his mate.

Positioning himself at Sungmin’s entrance, he gently pushed his hips forwards, sheathing himself into the warm tight cavern of his mate. Sungmin winced in pain. Kyuhyun was large but he could bear it. The two of them paused, savouring the feeling of once again being coupled together.

Sungmin breathed in, allowing his body to stretch and adjust to the male inside of him. He nodded, signalling that Kyuhyun could move. It took all of the canine’s willpower not to take him hard and rough. Tonight, he wanted to make love to Sungmin. The tight heat around him made his head spin and his heart stop.

Carefully, Kyuhyun began to move his hips back and forth in a slow gentle rhythm. He angled himself differently until Sungmin squirmed underneath him, pleasure shooting everywhere in his body. He wrapped his legs around Kyuhyun, pulling him deeper, bringing him closer until there was no space between them. His mate had found his prostate.

“I…I love you,” Kyuhyun ground out, his hips gliding deftly against Sungmin’s body. The feline responded with a whine, green eyes were hazy and unfocused, his breath coming in short gasps and ragged pants. His back arched at an impossible angle, trying to get more and more of that delicious friction.

“Kyuhyun, please…move faster,” Sungmin moaned quietly. It was so overwhelmingly pleasurable that tears were beginning to form. A few droplets slid down his cheeks as his eyes shut as another violent wave of hot tingles shot through his body.

“No,” the canine refused as he leaned forward to lick away Sungmin’s tears.

“Wh-what?” Sungmin stammered, his thoughts too obscure to process anything other than the fact that Kyuhyun would not move faster. Kyuhyun moved slowly within him, snapping his hips forward once before returning to his normal pace, causing the feline let out a sound, halfway between a strangled snarl and a scream.

“I said no,” the canine repeated, his voice liquid heat as he delved further into his mate’s heat.

“W-w-why?” Sungmin was practically sobbing now, his chest rising and falling heavily as the wonderfully slow pace drove him insane.

“Because tonight, we make love,” Kyuhyun answered before kissing Sungmin harshly. He continued his slow pace, Sungmin almost screaming for release. His hands came to rest on Kyuhyun’s shoulders, hanging limp after a short while.

He could feel himself growing closer to release. His mate’s infuriatingly but blissfully measured speed made him want to scream with want. He wrapped his arms around Kyuhyun’s shoulders, holding on desperately as if he were the last link to earth.

Sungmin dug his nails into Kyuhyun’s slick skin. The coil of heat inside him built and built until he couldn’t hold it back anymore. The heat exploded out of him, accompanied by a soft scream of pleasure and he clenched tightly around his mate.

The tight heat enclosed Kyuhyun and the canine gasped at the sudden tightness around him. He too released into Sungmin, his eyes closing in pure pleasure before he went almost completely limp. He just managed to catch himself on his elbows.

Sungmin breathed heavily, his senses overwhelmed by their actions. As his hazy mind began to refocus, he realized that Kyuhyun was beginning to move out of him. He stopped the taller man, shaking his head slowly.

“No, don’t move from me,” Sungmin whispered.

“What do you mean?” Kyuhyun asked.

Sungmin ran his hands up Kyuhyun’s well muscled arms. “Don’t stop now. Fill me until I cannot remember what it’s like without you. Take me until I cannot come any more for you. Make love to me now because tomorrow might be too late,” Sungmin murmured.

“Sungmin…if I do what you wish, then you will not be able to move, much less fight tomorrow. If you are in danger and cannot defend yourself because of me, I will regret it more than I will regret not taking you multiple times tonight,” Kyuhyun said but he still didn’t move from Sungmin.

“No, I am stronger than that. Take me again. Don’t let me forget you. Make it so I will always remember, even in death,” Sungmin felt tears start to fall down his cheeks. He loved Kyuhyun so much that it was painful.

Tomorrow, they would march into battle and together, they would try to drive back the dragons from their lands. If Sungmin was fated to die in that battle then he would go, knowing what it felt like to be loved and how it felt to make love. And he would remember Kyuhyun so easily.

There was a moment of hesitation. Then Kyuhyun slipped out of Sungmin and placed a kiss against his temple before moving downwards, licking him gently, causing another rise of goosebumps on Sungmin’s skin.

“No matter what, I will always love you,” the canine whispered.

“And I will always love you,” the feline whispered back.

It was dark but neither of them cared. It was late but neither of them knew. They wanted more than their bodies could give. They loved more than they could comprehend. And when they could not go any longer, they lay together, coupled and fearing the break of dawn.

!*!*!*!*!

Another stage done. Next chapter is the war! I hope you liked that little scene between Sungmin and Kyuhyun. I’m sorry I took so long to write it for you. I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading. I love you all!
