Okay, this is bound to become a bit disjointed since it's past five in the morning, I haven't slept yet, and I have a lot to talk about.
A bit about Torchwood, and particularly Owen:
I have no idea what they're trying to do with Owen's character. That's not to say that I haven't been enjoying the past few episodes...I really have. It's very interesting to me how, in contrast to NuWho's super-Christian overtones, Torchwood seems to be moving in an entirely different direction. Whenever somebody reports back from death on Torchwood they always say there was just darkness...but there's also the impression that they still did exist, just kind of in a I'm-floating-around-in-space way. In the first series the whole "something moving in the darkness" thing I thought was only a lead up to the big demon in the finale, but the theme seems to be reappearing again, but this time it's a bit more philosophical and a bit closer to home.
Prior to his life-death, I was taking note of the protective side of Owen in the new series. He has some definite desire to protect those around him, and especially those that he cares about. He's made an effort to protect Tosh, Gwen, and most recently Martha. There really is something of the caring doctor in him, (despite his delightfully snarky personality). But, with his recent zombification, it puts him in an entirely different position. He has no real power over his own situation (as far as we know) , which doesn't really allow him the same protective role that he's had in the past. He has to be cared for instead of the opposite, which cuts down his ability to feel helpful in any way...and he's suddenly the coffee boy zombie.
I really hope that they're not trying to retcon his personality, or worse, get rid of him entirely. But, whichever it is, we probably won't find out 'till the last three episodes.
I finally broke down and spent some of the money that I got from selling my car. I bought four things...the first two arrived this week, and I'm very happy. The first: new shoes! I have been drooling over
these for quite a while. They're the exact color of my 1983 liz claiborne purse (six bucks at a vintage shop...awesome!) It was only after I ordered them that I realized the Sixth Doctor also had bright green shoes...so, obviously, I have an awesome sense of style...right?
Second thing: Yarn! Yarn for my Fifth Doctor scarf! It shall be amazing...so I may be able to join the who knit-along after all.
Umm....that's it for now, I think. More to blather about, but it'll have to wait till later.
