I probably should have started applications for summer work experience well before now. They are due at the end of January (which to be fair is a bit of a ways away), but ONE application has taken me literally all day (until 10pm at least) just to properly research and respond to, and I still have two questions left to answer tomorrow to fully complete it.

Most people do a minimum of fifteen applications, usually more, all tailored to the firm you're applying to.

Goodbye free time for the foreseeable future, it will now consist of bullshit.
