Today was a rather long day, and to be honest, my Goodlife shift ended terrible. This guy came in fully dressed in workout gear with like headphones and a water bottle and wanted to be let in for free. Obviously, I told him he couldn’t and that he would have to pay for a guest pass. He asked how much it was, and I said $15 plus tax (because that’s how much it is when you come in without a member). He said “I only have ten, here I’ll just give you that”. I said I couldn’t authorize that and a guest pass was fifteen dollars plus tax. He then asked if he could just “sign a blue paper” (which happens to be our insurance liability forms) to which I told him people signed those to waive liability and only once they had paid the guest fee or had a free pass to get in. He tried to argue with me, telling me no, people in Ottawa just let him sign the pass and get in for free. I told him I wasn’t aware what other clubs we doing, and if they were doing that it was wrong. This was what we are supposed to do, and this is how we do things at this club. He said he worked at the carnival and would give me free rides if I just let him in (thanks, but no thanks buddy). He then told me he would like to take a tour. I asked how long he was going to be, he said forty minutes to an hour and he might “try some equipment out”. I said I’m sorry sir, you cannot use the tour as an excuse to utilize our facilities for free. A tour of the club at MOST takes about ten minutes, I can let you in for ten minutes but I will need you back downstairs by 9:25pm please. Which he agreed. I of course, knew this wasn’t going to happen.

At 9:30 I had to go upstairs and ask that he please leave. He argued with me, said “What, are you PMSing or something?” and that he had already paid for half a guest pass, couldn’t he just pay the remaining $5 after his workout. I said no, he would need to come downstairs with me now please and either leave the building, or pay for a full pass in order to complete his workout. He argued with me for another five minutes, then said he was going to get his stuff in the corner and sat back down and completed as set, which was SUPER disrespectful and just infuriated me. I walked over and told him he needed to come downstairs now please, and he said “I can’t hear you, hold on a minute”. I literally couldn’t do anything, as this guy was about six times my size and holding massive dumbells. At this point Mike, the overnight guy came over and was about to step in when the guy finished his exercise, grabbed his stuff and followed me downstairs (thank god). The guy then asked me if I hated men and that’s why I was doing this to him…Like I’m sorry buddy, neither you, nor men are the center of my universe. I told him no, but he was being extremely disrespectful to me, making my job more difficult and generally acting juvenile, and I was just trying to do what I was supposed to do.

He continued to argue with me at the front desk, tried to give his cousins name to say he had a membership and then tried to give me an experience membership name. Thankfully Jodie, the assistant general manager came in at that time and talked to him. Jodie approved the ten dollars as a guest pass (even though it’s more than that) I think just to get the guy out of there (because he could tell I was distraught) and then he said I could go take five in the back if i needed to. I then burst into tears because I was so angry/frustrated and explained to Jodie what had happened. Jodie said I did the right thing and if he’d known the type of stuff the guy was saying to me he never would have let him in to the club. At that point I didn’t even care anymore. I obviously couldn’t give in to the guys demands but I genuinely just wanted him to fuck off. He was a prick and an asshole and I’ll be happy if I never have to deal with him again!

So I went for a 2 mile run after my shift to let off some steam.

I fucking hate meat-heads.
