Kaycee had told Cory to surprise her. So he was going to. He arrived at her place, flowers of various types he purchased from Callie's flower shop were laid before her door. A bottle of wine was next to them. The a little stuffed bear. Around it's neck was a rope band crystal. Made in Russia. Cory then stepped back and started placing a trail of ( Read more... )

"Yes, very young, but I was raised by my grandmother, Una, who is also one of my spirit guides," she added brightly, "and she taught me her skills, plus helped me learn mine, and how to use them."

Cory shifted, "Do you remember anything of your parents? Did your grandmother ever talk about them?" He asked in going back to eating some more. "What else did she teach you?"

"I remember my father's laugh, his voice in fact, as he had a beautiful singing voice. He used to sing to my mother, my grandmother told me, when they were courting, on the island. It sounded so romantic," she sighed. "He used to sing me to sleep when I wouldn't go down," she added. "Mum used to cook, which always smelt good, and different to most of the cooking my friend's parents would do. She used a lot of spices and things that were not well known, and seafood." She took a sip of the wine and lowered the glass back to the table.

"Una taught me lots, everything, I guess."

Cory listened, the story sounding like a fairy tale. It was nice and he heard the hint of sadness in her voice. It was small but there. He nodded in listening, "What did she teach you? Just wondering how different it is to the Indian's" He smiled a little.

"What did she teach me?" Kaycee said, repeating the question as she took another mouthful and thought how to answer. She pictured a myriad of things in her mind, watching to see if Cory picked any of them up.

A child crying, then slowly smiling again, face lighting up and finally beaming; a large room full of people, colours mixed and swirling, each person contributing to it; a desert scene and a wild dingo running towards her, fear plapable but withstood; a tiny bird alighting on a branch nearby with a voice sounding as though it was coming from within it; a couple entwined, a sudden explosion of colour and light radiating out from them; a child's beach ball, bouncing freely across the sand of a beach, laughter following it as it lands in the edge of the shallows; warm darkness and a chorus of voices, blended into an amazingly powerful sound of unity; the face of the moon appearing over the horizon, from behind trees, creating a silver path across a lake... Finishing her mouthful she smiled at him. "She taught me everything I needed ( ... )

Cory sat back, drinking all of it in and he had to look out the window. He drew in a breath, pushing his empty plate away. He took a sip of his drink. "You were lucky to have someone raise you."

She looked at him, curious at his comment. "Did you... do immortals have parents?" she asked.

Cory turned his attention back to Kaycee and shook his head, "No. Only those we call our parents who take us in and raise us as one of their own. I wasn't one of the lucky ones."

"What do you remember of your childhood?" she asked.

Cory gave a shrug, "Being cold and hungry a lot. Scorching for food to eat. Begging and lifting what I could. Conning people to take me in for a while."

"Sounds like it was tough." She stops and realises that of course as an immortal, he could be...

"How long ago was that?"

Cory looked down, fingering his glass. Questioning if he should tell her his true age or let it be. "It was a while ago. Long while ago." He left it at that for now. Cory was more cautious these days.

Nodding silently she took another mouthful of wine. "What's a happy memory you can tell me about?" she asked. It was difficult to decipher where he was at sometimes, and she wanted to have him think about the good things for a while, even just a short while, if possible.

Cory chuckled, "Good memories. Happy ones. I have several of them. There was when I first met this amazing woman. She was..." He smiled. "The only woman who would not allow me to kiss her. Allow me to do anything with her. She was all woman and then some. God we had a great time together too. She was fun. Clever. Just... Amazing. Amazing Amanda she called herself."

Better. The memory triggered all sorts of colours, the indigo rather strong and vibrant.

"Ah, the one that resisted your normally 'irresistable' charms, huh?" she replied, smiling. "She must have been a very strong woman too!"

"Amanda is strong willed. She is a treasure. Special woman. And her boyfriend at the moment is a damn lucky man. Never thought the woman would be caught like that or leave that other lug she was with then."

"How about you. Your turn."
