"It's not like there's any intention of *never* delivering it, sir."

Dear Journal,

Today I got a note from Posten (The Swedish Postal Service) in my letterbox.

The purpose of this note was to tell me that starting from two weeks on, my mail will arrive "somewhat" later than it does today. Now, the last time Posten pulled that one, maybe two years ago, this meant that the post started arriving about an hour later. The reason that they gave then: Posten had new sorting techniques and was becoming more "efficient"! Hence the mail would be delivered later in the day. Terry Pratchett, anyone? Perhaps Posten had acquired a genuine 'Bloody Stupid Johnson' Sorting Engine with the result that they were now so busy "efficiently" delivering mail from the future and/or other dimensions that my plain ordinary mail simply would have to wait? I do not know, but that was actually the reason they gave. (Increased efficiency, I mean. Not Bloody Stupid Johnson.)

Today, they had an even better excuse. You see, Posten is Moving with the Times, adapting to the "habits and behaviours"(Eh?) of its customers (so, it's our fault, really). Due to "the decrease in letter volumes over the past few years", Posten kindly explains, "we need to continually adjust the delivery routes of our postmen." I'm sorry? So... you're having them make detours in order to compensate for the time that would otherwise have been saved by having less mail to deliver?

*facepalm*

Or, they could simply have written "due to budget cuts we have to make do with fewer postmen, your post is going to arrive later, live with it," and I would have. Whoever is responsible for Posten's public communications should be sent home to write fiction of the 'Magical Realism' variety, and be replaced by someone who is a little less ashamed about what they're doing.

Ahem. So, is getting an absurd note from the Swedish Postal Service really the first interesting thing to write about that has happened to me in the past two months? Uh. That depends on your definition of interesting, I guess. But actually, I've been a bit busy. And a bit tired. However, now I'm starting to work the weekend shift again (Yay! Five days off every week, how good is that!), so I ought to have a better chance of keeping up with myself henceforth. Only... not on weekends, of course.

other, life
