Strangers in Gilead

A period piece. Not typical with regards to structure, development, and vocabulary, so may not be everyone’s cup of whiskey, to be sure. I will claim it is ’avant guarde.’ Oh, and there is sex in it, but nothing that will make anyone *is ded*. And swearing.

And a long piece, upwards of forty thousand words. No, really. It was recommended to me ( Read more... )

I'm stunned! I love western movies and I thought your fic read like one. It was so well written!!

If you don't already write pro. you should! You could easily make this fic an original piece and have it published. I'd totally buy it:-)

Thanks indeed! I do think it's a downhill climb, though working with the established Winchester characters that we all know well, and using the Western trope is also just takes referencing common elements. Most of the hard work is done, and the rest filled in by the reader. Glad you liked it!

He should! I don't see why he couldn't create a couple of original characters and re-write this fic. I'd totally read it again...

Eeep! :-D :-D The "re-write" word, it's terrifying, he is skittish! But yeah, he OUGHT to pad it out a bit with a few more events, maybe, or some character backstory, and show these tie-in novelists how it's done.

*HINT. HINT. I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE, C.*

What has been going on here today? I get stuck in boring meetings and I find all this chit chat about new characters? And you want me to add MORE? I spent ages trying to add LESS. Absent the Winchesters what would we have? Just ersatz Deadwood and some naked guys, what fun is that?

And then I'd have to lean on my New York literary circle connections to find an agent and it would be all a big fizz. And work.

Hey, hey, now, I said BACKSTORY. (Because you need 300 pages for a novel. See! You get freedom! You like freedom, yes? Yes? ^___^)

..so, I'm back..! some years later;-) I found this today. Read it, thought it was amazing.. wanted to leave you a comment and saw that I've already done so a while ago..!?! ;-)

I still stand by what I once wrote. I'm yet again stunned and I think it could work as an original piece.. or even an episode in the show;-)

Wonderful to hear from you (again)! Funny, I'm not really a western fan at all, just sort of happened. I haven't been able to write anything much since, the show took a direction I really couldn't travel along with. (I still keep up, intermittently, but it's not the same.) But we will always have Season Two.

I hear talk that there will be an western-themed episode coming up, though I haven't heard any details. I do rather wonder how they'll handle it.

Thanks again!
