Just started the last of the
Confederation series (Truth of Valor) by Tanya Huff and am hoping that she continues this military scifi series. its plumb full of action and aliens, but not hindered by heavy military jargon and saluting everywhere. i do find it a bit light in the sense of not being dirty downright-mean war writing, but still very enjoyable.
Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr's goal is to keep both her superior officers and her troops alive as they face missions throughout the galaxy. But she's been sidelined with endless briefings and debriefings for a while, so she jumps at the chance to go to Crucible-the Marine Corps training planet-as temporary aide to Major Svensson. The major was reduced to little more than a brain and spinal cord in his last combat, and now he and his doctor are eager to field test his new body.
It's supposed to be an easy assignment-after all, Crucible was set up to simulate battle situations so recruits could be trained safely. But Torin's barely on-planet when someone starts blasting the training scenarios to smithereens...
Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr is a Confederation Marine's marine. She's survived more deadly encounters--and kept more of her officers and enlistees alive--than anyone in the Corps. Unexpectedly pulled from battle, Torin finds herself in an underground POW camp that shouldn't exist, where her fellow marine prisoners seem to have lost all will to escape. Now, Torin must fight her way not only out of the prison but also past the growing compulsion to sit down and give up--not realizing that her escape could mean the end of the war...
the latest in the
Bureau 13 series, it continues with Team Tunafish's fight to save humanity from.... well whatever lurks in the dark corners, bumps in the night, or comes through ripped portals in time and space. another series i hope is continued.
Bureau 13 is the ultra-covert branch of the FBI assigned to handle supernatural criminals.
When America is hit by the magical-equivalent of an H-bomb, every telepath in the nation drops dead and suddenly the Bureau is embroiled in a fierce war for survival. Ed Alvarez and his team of Green Berets and wizards hold nothing back as they struggle to save humanity from The Scion, an evil organization of powerful magic-users dedicated to nothing less than the complete destruction of the world. Hoo boy. Outgunned and outnumbered, the Bureau is forced to summon help from every other supernatural agency in the world and risk open warfare to stop America from becoming the other white meat...
this is a new series discovered by an author i found on fantastic fiction. i love book spelunking on that site! i'm still on the military scifi kick and thought i'd give this series a chance, and very glad i did. though i have to admit, every single time i read the title, i get Star Wars flashbacks. :P it looks to be a good series, full of things blowing up and the discovery of what Harris is and can really do.
PFC Wayson Harris is just another clone born and bred to fight humanity's battles for them. But when he learns that his fellow Marines are being slaughtered to make room for the newer model of clone soldier, he goes AWOL--and plans revenge.
