Follow up to Tilted Waistline

Hello everyone! I've finally finished my first muslin, and I'm pretty encouraged by the results. I know I need to make some edits to the bust area to better support the "ladies". Any suggestions for editing my pattern for the next go around would be appreciated. Some stats, my natural waist right now is a 56, this corset fully closed is a 44, ( Read more... )

I did scoop and sweep my breasts up once I had the corset laced. My breasts do sit rather wide on my chest, which causes all sorts of fun with bras. I'm a G cup ( ... )

Also, sadly I do not have a sewing buddy in the area, and definitely no one who has a clue how a corset is supposed to fit. My fiance had a hard time understanding why I needed "boring" pics of the muslin. I'm flying blind I'm afraid.

Hasty reply, because it's way past my bedtime.

- I still think you should keep the hip loose. That dress has a whooooooooole lot of foundation (somewhere on the web, someone did an x-ray or some kind of scan of a Charles James dress, there is so much structure under there it is nuts). There's no reason to fit the hip down if you don't have to and it'll support the front of the skirt as-is.

- Here is a very rough picture of several different things.

Thank you for the drawings, they help a lot. The problem though is that my breasts are laying flat inside the corset, with the boning and fabric creating much of the bust curve you're seeing. When I lift my breasts up where they should be, so my nipple is approximately at the point of bust level, there's no resistance or support for them there so they just fall back down. That's why my instinct was to adjust the beginning of the bust curve up (so that it starts higher), and take some of the fullness out to compress my breasts a bit to give the lift and support I need. I'm afraid that adding fullness, as you've suggested, will make the problem worse rather than better.

You could do both - raise the start of the curve and add more space.
