Making smooth boning channels on extreme hip curve

Mar 06, 2013 23:58

So right now I'm working on developing some really good patterns.  I am focusing a lot of attention on getting the hip curve as dramatic as possible, since I have a large hipspring and haven't felt my previous corsets REALLY showed it off to full effect.

But I'm running into the problem of getting boning channels sewn along a seam sitting directly on the hip without unsightly wrinkles and excess fabric at the waist.  I'm interested in both channels inside the seam allowance of the side seam and exterior channels, and I'm having problems with both methods.  Basically, I'm just ending up with a bump of fabric at the waist where the most extreme curve is and I don't know what to do about it.

So what does everyone else do to handle this?  I know there must be some tips to avoid this other than "don't make the curve so extreme" because I see gorgeous corsets with more of a curve than I am attempting.
