Health Care for Republicans

Aug 14, 2009 07:43

Well, it's been a while... a few days at least. I meant to post more but, oddly enough, I've been really fucking busy lately. But here I am, back again, and to talk about politics... I know it's usually a bad idea, especially when it's making you angry, but anger is also what gives one the most need to talk about something ( Read more... )

Eh, I do believe politicians are almost the same. If someone who isn't like them comes along, they don't last long. Like Jimmy Carter. He + Congress = fail. And, really, I think all the parties are, somewhere, built on lies. Clinton sure lied about certain things, lol. Besides, not like Obama's doing so fantastically everywhere: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/ But, admittedly, I like his administration more than Bush, Jr.'s.

Not like the Democratic party always existed. I guess you mean since it existed? Since we had Whigs, and we had Republican-Democrats, and Bull Mooses, among others.

I don't like populism too much. Doesn't help that Lou Dobbs has apparently spoken out as one of them. Granted, I also don't like elitism either, haha.

Clinton primarily lied about where he put his dick. Not exactly a political issue, that one.

And yes, I didn't think I was implying that the democratic party existed before Andrew Jackson.

I'm curious, though: with what you've said about liking the French revolution and all, I'm surprised you dislike populism. What is it you dislike about it?

I disagree. I think every politician lies about more than just their sex lives (and yes, I think quite a few have and still do lie about their sex lives as well). It's a shame politifact doesn't have more on Clinton, since he's no longer the President, but: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/personalities/bill-clinton/ And yes, that isn't a proper sample size, but it does show he's lied, and it is far from being about his penis.

Even if it's just about where they put their genitals, I'd rather have all high-level government people be honest about things. Obviously, I don't think they should actually bring it up, and I don't think they should deviate from talking about important things, even if people ask. But, if there's suspected criminal activity, or adultery or something else that leaks, may as well be honest. I respect honesty more than anything else-hence, I don't respect almost any politician much, hah.

Oh, no, I don't like ( ... )

Frankly, I'm amazed that's all they have on a man known as "Slick Willy" before he became president. And even their "pants on fire" lies are pretty underwhelming. They don't even hold a candle to the outright fabrications the Republicans have been pushing for many years. Saying his wife apologized faster than she did at a different time of day than she did isn't even in the same zip code as, oh... we have proof of WMDs, or the Health Care plan forces old people to tell a panel of doctors how they want to die. I think the difference in magnitude is staggering, personally. One lie is not equivalent to another ( ... )

It's not like Politifact's got the best sample size, lol. It's all focused around the current administration. I doubt there were so few as those. If I had been older when Clinton was still President, I could probably think of some; but, I don't recall anything except the tail of his Presidency. I was checking out Snopes for references, since it's one of the few web sites I can think of that tend to have unbiased, well-researched debunking and such, but they focus too much on a variety of stuff...not always political. Oh, well ( ... )

It went out of control. I don't even know that I'd say it was just Robespierre's fault either. It got crazy both on his side, as well as his "enemy's." (I forgot the name of the guy that kept speaking out at him. Blah.) I guess revolution was a last resort, but no one was around to keep this shit in check? No one had the brains, will power, or ability to get people behind him? Took too long. And, besides, from what I've learned, it seems Marie Antoinnette was almost an innocent thrown into this whole mess. Judging by her lifestyle and where she had to go because she was royalty...well, I doubt she could've done anything differently. Eh, I don't know. Whole can of worms there, perhaps.

Honestly, it seems like you're spinning into tangents here. I'm just going to scale back to a few basic points ( ... )

Spinning in to tangents? They're all related to the points.

Yeah, okay, so there can't be more than one definition of populism and plenty of other people messed up.

Tangents are loosely related to an original topic, but are not the same. Like talking about if Clinton specifically told any massive lies about political issues instead of the original issue, that the Republican party is entirely built on lies these days. Or talking about much insurance companies will pay to keep someone alive instead of Palin's "Death Panel" claims. Or talking about if Marie Antoinette is responsible for the French Revolution at all. It's like a game of telephone.
