OK… set the way-back machine to some unknown date 2006 or 2007. Take a wild guess on exactly when, I have no idea. It’s a Friday after work back in the Kink days. A few of us are sitting out back at Zeitgeist, one of them being my old boss Chris. It’s nice and sunny, so I’m only wearing a wife-beater and Chris looks over at me half drunk and says “Why the FUCK do you have a flaming poodle tattooed on your arm???” After much laughing and “what the fuck are you talking about” style statements, we finally figured out that he thought the small flaming skull tattoo on my right shoulder that I got when I was 17 was a “flaming poodle”. We laughed about it for a bit, then the following Monday, he gave me a drawing he did over the weekend of a “flaming poodle”. We laughed about it for a while, and I talked about getting it tattooed, but as usual everyone just thought I was crazy, joking or both. I have kept the drawing since and have multiple times wanted to get it done.
Original Drawing
In talking to Penny and our tattoo artist at one of her sittings a while back, I told him about it and he thought it would be a great idea to put it on. I brought it in to her last sitting and he got all excited about the idea and we made an appointment. He re-worked the drawing a bit to make it work better as a tattoo and work with his style, and we went for it. I wanted it on the opposite side of my arm as the other “flaming poodle” so that put it right at the edge of the hair line in my armpit. Not the most fun place to get a tattoo, but I’ll take a good amount of pain for a good joke. Craig kicked serious ass with this one, and right now I’d call it a tie for my favorite tattoo he’s done on me. I can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s healed!
