I saw Fiddler on the Roof Saturday. It was really good. I've never seen it before. Funny play.
On a completely different note, I'm increasingly disgusted with Watchmen fandom. Fangirls keep screwing up Rorschach. It's driving me insane. I swear to god, if I see one more fic where they hook him up with an OC...
Okay. Lots of people like to do pairings in fanfic. I understand that. I do. Just... not when they're using a character that's expressed hate and distrust toward women, as well as a deep revulsion to sex. The 'right woman' is not going to come around and change him. He's--in all effect--asexual. Hell, he's anti-sexual. As a stretch--as a big stretch--I could see him in some slash, if it's well written. Of course, I can't imagine it plausibly working with any character but Dan, considering that's the only other character he seems to care about.
However, I certainly cannot see him carrying on a relationship with a woman. Any woman. Not even a sparkly super-Sue. It just doesn't work. To him, all women are categorized two ways: virgins and whores. Even if he meets Sue and categorizes her in that first category, the moment she does anything sexual, she's going right into the second and right the hell away from him. Anything sexual--wears a short skirt, has a low-cut top on, makes sexual advances, kisses him. He's afraid of women and he's afraid of sex. Hell, he doesn't even like being near women's clothing.
Second point: fangirls need to stop cutseying up Rorschach. Rorschach is not cute. No, not even as Walter. He's ugly. He's dirty. He's sleep deprived. He's paranoid and insane. He's antisexual.
What about all that would make anyone think that he's a cute little bishounen? God! My mind--she boggles!
Also, Rorschach has a distinct speech pattern. Like this. Speaks in broken sentences. Evidenced through journal and dialog. Possible result of insanity. Provides interesting facet to character. Why does it get dropped by so many fanfic authors?
...uuurgh. I just... I need to stop watching certain communities. And I need to get off the internet for a bit. This is driving me mad. I'm not even going to start on how much it pisses me off when people use the movie as cannon...
