Well, the revisions are done. I should hear back by March, which is fine. At the very least, the revisions have improved the book, even if this thing doesn't work out.
In a nice bit of serendipity, the same manuscript, Dinah of Seneca, finaled in the Ohio Valley RWA Enchanted words contest:
http://www.ovrwa.com/enchanted_words/ To confess, I forgot I entered the contest. It was November, I was rushing to get the Golden Heart entries out, and I probably entered to get feedback on the query. So, mission accomplished. Query good. :)
Here's the short summary in the query:
Dinah of Seneca is a 85,000 word alternate history romance set in a world where the Roman Empire survived to colonize North America.
The Roman Empire of this tenth century stretches from Russia in the East to a new continent in the West. The Imperial Legions have kept the peace, thanks to steel, cannons and other advanced weaponry. But a new continent brings new challenges and this time the Imperium may have met its match. The Roman garrison in Seneca, located in modern-day Albany, New York, lacks the supplies and men needed to defeat an alliance of native Mahicans and immigrant Vikings.
DINAH, a former slave trained in espionage, had hoped Seneca would be the start of a new life for her. Instead, she is pulled into the three-way war. If Seneca is to survive, Dinah must reconcile her allegiance to Rome with her chance to create her own destiny in the New World with the Viking Chief, GERHARD.

I had such fun writing this book, though it has its fair share of blood and gore. I got to research Roman, Viking and native American societies and had fun watching what happened when you put them together. I blew stuff up. I got to write hawt sex. And I got to create an entirely new world.
I wrote it when I was convinced I would never sell anything, so I thought 'well, to hell with them,' and put elements in the book that I enjoyed and to hell with the market.
It's nice to see that others enjoy it.
Extra nice because Ter named this book. I was struggling with finding a name, because I usually use the action in the book to drive the name. But she suggested this one and it was perfect.
On the personal front, the news is much less good. Lots of money issues. Family issues that will continue to sap my energy.
And the dog keep whining at me because it's too cold for her to go outside and dig up the yard. Just what I need. More whining. :)
But the Superbowl is Sunday and it should be a good game. And I totally geeked on Gil getting a happy ending on CSI. I don't care if it was too sweet. I loved it. I need happy right now.
