Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of the day, I put up a quick scene over at my writing blog. It's from my newly sold superhero story.

And I've been pondering my favorite romantic scenes from books/movies/tv/comics.

The first that came to mind from comics is, oddly, from Frank Miller. (I KNOW).

It's the short panel where a retired JIm Gordon embraces his wife, Sarah, who unexpectedly survived and explosion. ("Just one more thing.")

Clark & Lois have to be my favorite comic couple but I'm having trouble find a great moment that sums up their relationship.

Bruce & Selina were doing nicely over in Batman Incorporated #1, however. :)

And I have to give props to Kevin Smith for the Ollie/Dinah reunion after Ollie's return from the dead. He did good there.

Favorite romantic scene from my own books? Tricky choice but I'll go with this one:  from Above the Fold, my book featuring a crime solving couple. Grayson is the one doing the talking at the beginning.

Maybe it's not a good thing for a writer to love their work this much but Trisha and Grayson are the characters that always give me warm fuzzies.

“Patricia, you said you didn’t need rescuing.”

“Well, I amend that. It seems that I do need rescuing from crazed museum directors with guns.” She shook her head. “But not otherwise, no. I chose my life, as messed up at it is. I don’t need a rescuer.”

“I do.”

I do.

Two words.

Two simple words. One of them wasn’t hardly even a word, just a letter. Barely a sound.

It seemed so wrong that three syllables could upend her entire life.

Something twisted in her gut. She turned to face him. Now that she allowed herself to really look at him, she could see the stubble on his face, the tiredness in his eyes. No, not tired.

Sad.

“I’ve got feet of clay.” Her words came out in a harsh whisper.

“We all do,” he said.
