Now that I have attended both family Christmas gatherings, I feel safe in posting my Christmas report.
Yesterday morning was the traditional family breakfast with my parents, my dad's parents, and my Great Aunt Lorraine. It was a calm affair, as one might imagine, three of those in attendance being over the age of eighty, but I love my octogenarian relatives. They're gracious, lovely people who have lived long and interesting lives and who continue to serve as sources of comfort and wisdom for the rest of the family.
We ate at around 9:30, and it was delicious as usual. Scrambled eggs with cheese and sour cream, bacon (or yummy sausage with cheese and apple bits on my suggestion), and biscuits. Mom always apologizes that Christmas breakfast is so simple, but I don't think anyone minds.
We gathered around the tree after we finished eating, and I put my digital camera to use. In the past, it was always Dad making sure that pictures got taken, but now I seem to have inherited that responsibility.
Anyway, I think everyone appreciated what I got them.
I got...
From my parents:
A rolling, collapsible cart for school and farmers' market runs
A traveling toiletries organizer
Heaven's Net is Wide
A 2-gig flash drive (now I'll have something to plug into my new DVD player with USB ports I just got!)
Simply Christian by N.T. Wright
An awesome looking pirate figurine that Dad picked up at the coast.
From my grandparents - a little book of inspirational quotes, a magnet, and a keychain
From my Aunt Darlene and Uncle Merrill - two pairs of fun fuzzy socks (always need more of those... my room tends to eat them.)
From my cousin Jeff and his family - A miniature sleigh filled with hot cocoa and cookies
From
angelsbaby0910 - a board game called Pirate's Cove that looks very fun.
angelsbaby0910 came over after all of my relatives had gone home, and we exchanged gifts and continued our tradition of seeing a movie with my mother on Christmas day. We went to see The Golden Compass. I had heard a great deal about the movie, and so I was glad to be able to see it. I can see why people who read it as a straight allegory for the actions of the church in the real world are up in arms. I choose not to read it that way and enjoyed it very much. The little girl who played Lyra was amazingly good, and the Ice Bears were fantastic. Also? I want Seraphina's dress. I think I could pull her off decently convincingly.
Today, I mostly graded, read, and got ready for the party tonight. I got all the way through one set of class portfolios, most of which didn't make me want to burst into tears of frustration, which was a good thing.
