Now I know that many of you, dear readers, maintain faith in a god of some sort. For those of you who do, who put your faith in him (or her), I have a question. I promise that I won't challenge, scorn or otherwise do the things I normally do, but I was hoping you could tell me this: How do you balance your belief in this god and still accept ( Read more... )

I don't fall into the religious catagory, but it is my understanding that God kills indiscriminately and without remorse.

I've always been fond of the idea of God as a duality - God and Satan, absolute good and absolute evil all rolled into one omnipotent package.

Not only does it go a long ways in rationally explaining the nature of the world, it's just entertaining to think of a schizoid deity.

Because, believe it or not, we all die one day. Maybe not as horribly as what happened in Thailand, but death comes to us all.

This world isn't heaven nor is it supposed to be. The fact that everyone is crying "No Fair" (and it is extremely tragic, I affirm that) is a testement of how naive we are. We never expect tragedy, terror or death. We expect to live Brady Bunch lives and whine when we don't get that iPod we wanted for Chritmas. This tsunami isn't the first one ever, nor is this the first time whole populations have been wiped out.

Our world is a geological wonder and populated biological organisms and we have no option but to be impacted by those facts.

Through my own experience, it has been my personal tragedies that taught me the most about life, not my blessings.

We get what everyone else gets, - a lifetime, no more, no less.

I consider myself an agnostic. Yet... I couldn't help but reply to this post.
I'm guessing that this god character traumatically wipes out entire populations to remind us of how powerful he can be, the type of destruction he is capable of.
You've noticed, we've all noticed that not as many people are so deeply religious and wor.. shipy... as they were in the 'time of christ.'
K, I'm done. Imma chase a chipmunk now.

Ahh, the god of the early days. The god of fire and brimstone, raining down his wrath on entire populations and causing the earth to swallow entire cities. Not that wienie god that took fish and bread and made people dinner.

As science and our understanding of the world around us has increased, the instance of divine intervention has decreased. It does tend to lend itself to the idea that our religion will be the next epoc's mythology, just as the religion of the greeks and the egyptions are todays paycheck for Edith Hamilton.

My thought on what happened in thailand was that in the days of 'christ' this would have become some sort of "noah's ark" story. I am not sure how I feel about a 'god' but I am sure not a believer in the bible. At best I might consider calling myself agnostic... but more often athiest

If there is a god and the bible is true... I have no interest in a God that would allow something like this to happen to 'his children' and am really not into spending eternity praising one who did.

I guess I am not really the type to give the feedback you were wanting...

Ah, sounds like a viewpoint more along my personal religious belief that if god has not, in fact, left the scene of his crime, then he is one mean sonofabitch that I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.
