maybe we have got it all wrong as a society. maybe human beings can not handle this idea of "love". we become infatuated with someone, as hormones and phermones(big time sp) kick in and decide to start falling in love with them. once you are with a person long enough it seems so right to tell them you love them, only to watch it diminish and fade ( Read more... )

Love is only what you make of it as a human. Perhaps it's some genetic throwback to our Caveman days of territorial conquest, perhaps just to ensure that our species procreates, perhaps... whatever. It really doesn't matter what it's meant to be, or really is. Love is what you feel it is, and what you make of it. Our emotions, in part, make us Human. Love is probably one of the greatest doors to the "Human Experience" just like Pain, Anger, Happiness, Fear, and the whole spectrum of Human emotions are.

I believe that a large portion of True Love lies within friendship. If it were nothing more than Pheromones and Hormones, could love between two men or women really exist? What about Platonic love? What of platonic love of creatures such as, for example, a Dog? You can't sleep with a Dog. Well, you can but that would be a whole different LiveJournal. Love is a very complicated, multifaceted, Mobius strip. In the end, I doubt it would accomplish much to really analyze it. It's a Feeling, much like Fire makes you say "ow" or "911", Love makes you say and do things almost on reflex. This shouldn't diminish it at all, however. If true love exists, there is more to it than a Simple "I Love You, Dear." and commence with the sex. Thats a part, but its also equal parts understanding, appreciation, and friendship. When folks grow old together, they often lose their sex drive. Men and Women can become increasingly hormonally similar, leaving just the bond of their experiences and friendship. But of course theres more to it than that. Perhaps it is partially a product of society and old-school religious values. Maybe its something simple (term used loosely) like Pheromones, or maybe some unknown being twists our ways to its every whim, Creating and Destroying our souls through Love and Hate.

Who Knows. I don't believe we are capable, as Mortal Humans, of wresting such a deep, twisted, gnarled root from its firm spot in our collective minds. Personally, I think it's more interesting to be kept in the dark. Where would the excitement be if we had the roadmap to our lives?
