The chorus was singing some crazy gorgeous threatening epic song during the first ceremony.. George thinks they were singing to the theme of the day.
Since he could not make out the words, he assumes that they were singing "DEATH APPROACHES! SACRIFICE! FOR THE STATE!"
It certainly would have gone with the theme of the day. "Ur not too young to die. Give us ur muneys."
