It was 77 today. Yikes. No music monday because I have to catch up on writerly ways. I had thoughts I wanted to share but I am so tired and I'm processing my anger at my insurance after a doctor's visit today.
My only thought was again how stacked against everyone publishing is. In this case, just getting reviews. On one hand I get it, you want to make sure your investing in putting a book on Netgalley is going to get to the widest audience but I just got a rejection from Harlequin (some imprint of theirs I didn't know was theirs and in the end no big loss I don't read a lot of romance) because I was not a book seller or librarian. The only other way to get a book from them is to be an educator in English/Lit or a reviewer where I have to have on my NG bio my blog link AND stats AND proof you all comment to it AND author's interviews etc etc.
I was annoyed AF by this because they're describing PRO reviewers and honestly fuck you Harlequin you HAVE pros to do this. I KNOW you do because if my small indie publisher has them, then the biggest romance publisher in the world HAS to have them. Netgalley and goodreads giveaways are meant for readers, not pros. And also how could my little indie book compete on NG if Harlequin is there?!?
