No lie it spit snow all day. It was 78 degrees two days ago. WTF Ohio? Fool's Spring is supposed to be BEFORE the pollening not during. My allergies (which Cincinnati is known to be a high allergy spot) woke me up at 630 AM and I couldn't get back to sleep so I sucked down as much caffeine as I could but really that was the only bad spot.
I did however fall asleep at one point just in time to get up late enough that I missed the first panel I was considering (since for me these cons are all about learning stuff at the panels because I'm that level of geek) so I went looking at the dresses etc again. The one I considered buying was not big enough. She could alter it but...here's the thing I'm capable of making this thing. Hell Holy clothing is selling something comparable for 80$ vs 250$ (which yes I know, artist, art, value but this didn't fit right). I said put me on the mailing list to be nice because who knows maybe on a sale....She DID have a tiny one that I coveted and might have considered if it was in my size range. The fabric looked like wedgewood victorian scene until you looked close and realized it was Kirk and Spock. I want that damn fabric!!
The other dressmaker ignored me 3 times today (and twice yesterday) They had the most realistic dresses on the mannequins (but only those ruched 'pirate' skirts on the racks. I figured it was their way of saying we have nothing for you (since there wasn't a crowd yet).
I did go to Damsel in Distress and try on their corsets. Naturally the one I liked the best was 400$ and again no. I did, however, find one I liked (a metallic blue-purple with gold paisley) that wasn't insanely expensive. It's very pretty and if it doesn't go 30 years oh well. I could buy 3 of these for the price of the one I looked at last night.
I did buy a couple pieces of jewelry I didn't need and a bunch of sweet steam's chocolates and the rest of the day was panels. I really enjoyed the monster hunting one (and he also did one on dueling (here's my reminder to look up
Julie D’Aubigny a bisexual French opera singer/fencing master/duelist). he's a h.s. teacher and those kids should know how lucky they are to have such an engaging speaker). Gunslingers and Penslingers: Tenacious Women of the Wild West was fun. Here's my reminder to look up Susan LaFlesche the first Native American doctor.
I had planned to go to a mad scientist panel at 1 but got back to my room late. I needed a minute to stow the cowboy boots (done with them!) and put on my usual steampunk boots which are much more comfortable.
I sat in on RS Belcher and Leanne Renee Hieber's talk which was fun. You’re Cordially Gin-vited was a blast. I learned how to make my own gin and other cordials and yes there were samples. Lots of samples. The Vampire Panic of New England (WTF Rhode Island!) was a fun talk.
Hell Broke Loose: The Servant Girl Annihilator was the only disappointment. Usually Dash's serial killer lectures are good but this one felt like they tossed it together in a day. Basically just a list of the victim's names and how they were killed. There was more on how the Jack the Ripper/HH Holmes did it theories couldn't be right. It was a half hour long instead of the hour and concluded with well this black guy who was trying to kill another woman and was shot by the cops did it (the proof was there were bare foot prints at hte scene and he was missing a toe like those prints).
all in all a very good day.
