A Year in Books

Jan 01, 2022 21:57

Here's everything I read this year (not that much about 76 books) broken down by genre plus in depth reviews for November (which I forgot to post) and like the one solitary book I finished in Dec. (Okay that's for reading holiday exchange fanfic, let's be honest) I love talking books so if you see something that interests you...

I read 2 of the books you did last year: Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger (based on your recommendation) and Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

I have the 3rd and 4th Richard Castle books that I still need to read. I also still need to read Trigger Warnings by Neil Gaiman.

I'm gonna skip Popsugar next year. The topics don't excite me much. I will do the LJ Book Bingo Alpha challenge, though. I also book marked an old reading challenge that looked like fun, so I think I'm going to do this instead of Popsugar: Fandom Reading Challenge.

I read 105 books last year! Some short stories in there, and LOTS of audiobooks. I think I'll break out short stories next year.

I think you'd like Trigger Warning.

I almost didn't do Popsugar until I realized that yes I DO own more than 50% of the prompts already so I'm doing those and to heck with the rest.

Is there a newer version of the fandom challenge?

that's a nice lot of reading. Now that I'm getting to the whole needing reading glasses stage I find myself reading less which is sad. I don't really like audiobooks and I don't like reading ebooks at night so.... (also for the last 3 years I've been using my nighttime reading editing fanfic)

It looks like they only did the fandom challenge in 2017, but since I just came across it mid-last year, it's new to me.

I mostly read fanfic on my iPad in bed, otherwise my count might be higher. I do sometimes read physical books (or ebooks) instead of fic, but it still takes me a lot longer to get through them. Which is annoying because I have SO many waiting to be read. I do try to use them for challenges when I can. And last year I did manage to finish 3 physical books I'd been in the middle of for at least 6 months, one took me 2 years to finish.

Ah okay. (maybe one day we'll create our own challenges)

ebooks take me forever to get thru until now. I read them riding my stationary bike because it's not like I'm going full out (as if i could) Audio books aren't good for me as my job doesn't exactly allow me to listen and work and I find them too distracting when I drive. so physical books for me (though the ebooks I can make that print as big as I need)

Congrats! What was your favourite mystery book this year?

Thanks. The two by C.S. Harris were the best but these were surprisingly good (honestly overall this was a mediocre batch of mysteries this year)

Absence of Mercy by S.M. Goodwin
The Butterfly House by Katrine Engberg
Dark Sky Island by Lara Dearman
The Snowdonia Killings by Simon McCleave
