My ongoing war with public utilities

Nov 30, 2020 21:45

So yesterday my phone turned to complete and utter static. Today was just as bad. I chatted Frontier and after dinking around we proved it wasn't the splitter and somehow made it worse. It went from static to 'line in use' with no dial tone (but no static). In the process I learned that I misplaced my corded phone which I had out the last time Frontier's phone lines sucked it.

I'm furious at myself for that. The customer service person said the tech will be out between 8-12 today. I'm like uh it's already 1230. Oh no problem they will be there. I cleaned like crazy because it's horrible in here. You still can't tell i DID anything because all I do is make online classes and write. I have nothing else going on. My fault. Never found that phone. God what did I DO with it?

Cleaning really p ut the hand over the edge, pain wise, it's 100% numb with parathesias (think it feels 'asleep but waking up' and I can hardly move it. Another suggestion that I have chronic compartment syndrome in my hand, after using it so much today it is ice cold.

Long story short the tech never showed. Around 5 the phone came back online as pure static. The online ticket says the tech will be here between 12AM- 12AM...um WTF? I can't be here tomorrow. I have two doctor's appts.

And now after raining all day it's snowing. Gah.

I did however make the most of cyber monday (and why did I buy something yesterday and lose out on their 40% off sale??? I can't even). One thing off etsy already shipped. It was for me. My birthstone is an alexandrite which I've always seen as a pale ugly pink gem. For some reason I decided to go looking into it more. And actually it's a color change stone from purple to pink to green so I bought one.

I'll be back for my final nano word count. I'm proud of myself yinz don't know!

Nano snippet - Rubbing his thumb over the glass pendant dangling around his neck, Brendan thrust both Heather and Joshua out of his mind. He hiked to the fire pit in the back yard where there was a clearing in the trees. Sitting in the rickety lawn chair, he stared up at the sky. Cloudless, the heavens gleamed. The Milky Way twinkled, brighter than anything he could hope to see in his yard back home. Dublin might be a suburb of Columbus but it still had plenty of light pollution.

“Beautiful,” he murmured, thinking this needed worked into his story somehow along with how noisy the woods were. It hummed with insects and some creatures who sounded bigger than that. He had no idea. He pulled out his phone and tried to take a picture of the full moon.

A strange cry split the air catapulting him from the chair which spilled over. His heart pounded. More strange cries followed the first. Brendan thumbed on the recorder, jogging toward the house. If whatever screamed in the woods didn’t kill him, maybe Joshua would know what the hell it was. Brendan raced inside and bolted the door. He shut the windows he’d opened. He’d use a fan if he got too hot.

My final word count original and fanfic together was

82316 / 50000 words. 165% done!
