Today can bite me

Okay let me ask you if you saw a story with a graphic violence warning and tagged medical torture and serial killers in a fandom where you know the serial killer dissected people (and saw the prompt of Martin nearly killed Malcolm and that’s how he was caught) wouldn’t you assume it contained gore? The first comment to my story was some anonymous ( Read more... )

thanks, that's a help.

OMG I hope to hell you responded, thanks I'm Irish born and raised. I think I know my own language.

I honestly don't mind being asked to tag something. I DO mind being yelled at multiple times (and also people talking behind my back as they were on Twitter)

You're welcome.

Yeah, I pointed out that they had chosen to explain my own language to me incorrectly, and yet, somehow I was accused of being over the top in my reaction to that. I ended up doing the Ao3 equivalent of blocking them. I still love how they thought they were complimenting me - by missing the entire point and incorrectly telling me how to pronounce Samhain - I mean it's literally the month of November and I learned it as a child, I will never be able to forget it, but go off, my dude.

Same here, if I don't tag for something that's genuinely upsetting then I will absolutely correct myself but people are becoming very demanding and expecting authors to know what will be a trigger for every reader they might ever have, and I don't like it.

That's sad and funny and makes you want to throat punch. I would block them too because OMFG, pointing out you're a native speaker and that's over the top??

Same here. All they had to do was ask nicely not send multiple rants and technically I've now tagged for somethign that doesn't even exist but whatever. If you can't tell there's gore with the tags I have....I can't gatekeep your fiction

Oh, yeah, I was definitely ready to punch this person in the throat. Apparently calling them out on their condescending Yank-splaining my own native language to me was "Aggressive" despite me having in my profile a No Constructive Criticism request. I mean, nobody reads profiles but still.

Oh, god I went back and they used another name, a sock puppet or something, to leave another comment. *sigh* At least that one wasn't bitching about my pronunciation of my own language.

Yeah, I mean either that person didn't know the fandom, like, AT ALL or chose not to read the tags. I mean, I've skipped over the tags when I've been excited to see a fic and realised that oops, this one's not for me. That's what the back button is for. That's on me, not on the writer, though.

Oh they were one of those who don't think it is aggressive when THEY criticize but when you counter them you're aggressive and a bully. I hate it when I get one of them in my writing critique group which hasn't happened in years thank god.

Naturally because you get block so sock puppetry is your only recourse. rolls eyes

It would be o ne thing if I had selected choose not to tag. I generally don't read those. A medical procedure isn't a dissection but you know what I put it on the tags as asked (which is why I got hot after them continuing to badger once it was done) and explained the difference in the notes before the story (which by the way the prompt was right there before the story, Martin nearly kills Malcolm so how did you not know about gore) like the aggressive pendantic bitch I am :-)

Oh, yeah. And, like, it's a short fic the entire point of which is misunderstanding. If I put in notes explaining the joke then it would ruin the entire thing, but apparently because this person "didn't get the joke" (which is why they chose to Yanksplain the pronunciation of Samhain to an Irish person in whose language the word originated) am I now obliged to ruin the joke for people who might wander into the fic later on? Em, no.

Yyyep. *throws up hands and huffs*

Pedantry and pettiness can be so cathartic, though ♥
