HBP has been published now, and it has had quite the effect. The book did something no other book in the series has done: it sunk some ships and let others sail ( Read more... )

Good God! Great post! The owner of hermionepotter.net must have been living in a dreamworld for the past 8 years. I ask this question, not to be snarky, but as a honest to goodness serious question -- what books was this person reading? Because they are obviously not the same books that I read. I mean that with all the seriousness I can muster. Before I was shipper, and before I was even I fan of the series, I read HP Book1 and knew almost immediately that Ron & Hermione were eventually headed for each other's arms. Certainly no one who has EVER experienced romantic love (whether requited or unrequited) could read Goblet of Fire and not realize what Rowling had planned between R&H. It was all right there from the very beginning, and it has certainly been there in SPADES since Goblet of Fire. If some people refuse to see it, that is their fault, not Rowling's. As stated, she has told us time and time again - in the books themselves and in her interviews, that Ron & Hermione were headed for more than friendship and that Harry & Hermione were friends and that's all. Harry himself even laughed and told Krum that he felt absolutely nothing for Hermione besides friendship. Again I ask -- what books were these people reading? Rowling told them, Harry told them, Hermione told them, and Ron told them. Over and over and over again. In over 100 different ways -- in subtle ways, in serious ways, in club-you-over-the-head ways. Somehow, I think that even if GOD himself told them, they'd refuse to believe it. They have no one to blame but themselves for being so foolish and frankly, so dense.

I can certainly understand that everyone has their own opinion, and that in fact some people would have preferred that pairings go another way. But to say that you never knew it would happen exactly as it did? Well, that's either a bold-face lie or a big dose of stupidity. Take your choice.
