Oh, a survey!

I did this last year and liked it. Fun:

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Pitched hay, etc. Became vegetarian/vegan. Went to a Quaker meeting. Contra danced. Gave a ride to a hitchhiker. Gave my number to a stranger. Made hummus. Made cheesecake.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
See, in addition to deleting my lj account, I also deleted my 43 things list because internet and school do not mix. However, I did develop temporary stretching and flossing habits. I went vegan for a month. I farmed. I grew. So I'd say I accomplished a good number of my 2007 resolutions. And yes, there will be more.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Um...I guess not.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Buster the horse. He never wanted to let us clean his front right hoof...

5. What countries did you visit?
New Jersey, and a country/western bar.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A master's degree!

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Jan 2, because I went vegetarian/vegan that day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Going veg was a big change, but easy. Driving to New Jersey alone was a big deal. But then so was writing a 30-page paper and turning it in relatively on time.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Falling out of the flossing habit... :(

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I sprained my ankle and thought it was broken. And thought I was having a heart attack ("chest wall pain"). And blackened a toenail. And suffered a pig bite.

11. What were the best things you bought?
Holy shit the lasagna at Angelica's! And a particularly thick pair of socks.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Ashley's--so loving, kind, and supportive.

13. Whose behavior appalled you?
My dad's, occasionally. Nothing new.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food and gas. Largely in New Jersey.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Howell Farm!! Quakers!! Contra dance!! Food!! Chickens!! Vegans!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Probably "Coin-Operated Boy."

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: happier or sadder?
Soooooooo much happier.

ii. Thinner or fatter?
Same.

iii. richer or poorer?
Richer. I even started banking.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Flossed, stretched, read for comps!

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Um...nothing!

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
At home opening presents.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
With contra dance!

23. How many times did you drink too much?
Once. Barely. The rest of the times were awesome!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
House, but I don't watch it with Christina gone.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, I don't think so.

26. What was the best book you read?
OMG, Living Among Meat Eaters by Carol J. Adams.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dar Williams, for sure.

28. What did you want and get?
Internship! Poop!

29. What did you want and not get?
Money instead of gifts for Christmas. Nice steel-toe boots.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Because "favorite" can mean so many things, I list three: Into the Wild, Earthlings, and Sicko.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
Dressed up real colorful like, drove to Chapel Hill, sat at the public library working on a session proposal, talked to Christina on the phone, possibly cooked something fun.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Stage six on the loss cycle.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Goodwill.

34. What kept you sane?
Ellis and school counseling services. Do not under-appreciate.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well I did dream about Joaquin Phoenix last night, but I wouldn't call that a fancy. I feel like I had the hots for SOMEONE, but I can't think who. I might get back to you on that. Paul Bettany, maybe? Potentially Ellis...

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
That creepy farm bill.

37. Who did you miss?
Rob, Becky, Sarah, Christina, Maggiedog.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Totally Rob, my boss on the farm. Everyone should meet Rob.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
Any shit that happens to you is also happening to half of the people you know at the same time. Share it.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I think we're able to let go of more baggage than we give ourselves credit for
and the sunrise sayin' hello in the morning time makes me believe that more and more."
-Ellis, Doin' Fine
