a. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question.
b. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.
1. Where did your LJ handle come from?
An old, old, very lame character I had at the first HP rp I ever did. I was being Original Dammit, and now I think it's kind of stupid, but I'm attached to it, so whatever.
2. If you could live in any book, which would it be?
Definitely a children's book - maybe Peter Pan or The Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter. I like how possible everything is in children's books. But not Alice in Wonderland - that's my favorite, but let's be honest, Wonderland is hella scary.
3. What is making you happy right now?
The last traces of that whole Clean New Semester feeling, weaving and knitting and spinning projects, Bogart, writing, the prospect of going to Key West with my family this summer, good conversations, the cold (for once) and my Eliot class. The professor cackles and sometimes wears bow ties. It is Good.
4. What are you currently reading?
Public Enemies, Atonement on CD (unabridged), The Wipers Times (WWI trench newspaper, not fictionalized or anything), the third of the Buffy Season 8 comic books, The Romance of Arthur for class, a lot of T.S. Eliot for class, and I'm about to start Richard II for another class. And my wildlife textbook.
5. Do you need music to study/write?
Yep. Classical preferred to study, usually violin or piano, nothing too slow. Vivaldi is good. To write it depends entirely on what I'm writing.
6. What is a clear memory of a time when you were very ashamed of yourself?
It was shame after the fact because I didn't even realize I was doing it at the time, which just made it worse. Long (longlong) story short, I was dating this really incredible guy my senior year in high school, but was too caught up in Drama with Joe to appreciate what I had right in front of me. Months later, a friend pointed out what I'd done one day, and I was just horrified because it basically exemplified what I'd been doing all year. The Boy and I were standing in the band hall corridor, I guess just talking, when Joe showed up. I basically automatically walked off with Joe and just left The Boy standing there, apparently watching us go with a really hurt look on his face. I didn't even realize I'd done it. That's also the one thing I genuinely regret, is how I treated him. It wasn't intentional by any means, but that almost makes it worse, doesn't it? I've always thought neglect can be as hurtful as cruelty. I'm not proud of that.
7. What is the ugliest body part?
You know, toenails really gross me out unless they're very well maintained. Like, really. Fingernails used to freak me out, too.
8. Do you like gender politics?
Nope. It's counter-productive and gives me a headache.
9. What is your favorite movie genre?
Drama, but not in the 'omg woe' sense. This is not, however, to the exclusion of others - I'll watch anything good that isn't a slasher flick or a really, painfully girly romantic comedy.
10. What was the last thing you ate today?
Orange.
11. What is your favorite color?
Red! Red car, red sneakers, red glasses, red sofa, red dog harness, red chair, garnet ring, etc., etc. (My apartment does have other colors, I promise.) Specifically I like really bright, vibrant reds. I like the energy, the feeling behind it.
12. How much money do you think you are worth?
Can't put a price on people.
13. What's your favorite food?
That's contingent upon a lot of things - first to come to mind, though, is Mom's banana pudding. It's completely from scratch (NO BOXED STUFF) from her mom's recipe, and is Very Very Special in our family. Other than that, I really like food from other cultures (no fried American stuff, thanks). Indian, Mediterranean, etc. Oh, and cajun food - half my family is from Louisiana (though not actually cajun; never call Granny cajun), and nothing beats Dad's gumbo. And then graham crackers in milk is the ultimate comfort food for me. I have clear memories of eating that at Granny's kitchen table, and it's this automatic safe, loved feeling.
14. Which languages do you wish you spoke?
Italian, Russian, Spanish, Hindi, etc., etc.
15. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Reckless/inattentive/stupid driving. I don't really care how important that text/call/make up is, or if you think the speed limits are suggestions, you do not have the right to risk other people's lives. I really feel strongly about that one; nothing pisses me off faster than people being irresponsible behind the wheel of a car.
16. Do you have a birthmark?
Haha, yes. I have one of those slightly-darker-patches-of-skin in the vague shape of a butterfly (or a bow tie) on my backside. There's also a little square one on my wrist, but you can't usually see it very well.
17. Who was your childhood idol?
Ariel. I had the sheets and everything.
18. Where would you like your next holiday to be?
Where the mailboxes are red and they drive the other way.
19. What's your favourite non-food-related taste?
The wind coming off the ocean.
20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you.
Well, two people tagged me, so for
roux_the_pirate , the One Brain-ness. I'm so very grateful to have a friend like her; it's nice to know we get each other on so many levels, but we can agree to disagree and it's all still totally fine. (And she's totally kick-ass. I need lessons.) For
dabria , her chipperness. Every time I talk to her she seems to be in a great mood, or at least upbeat. That's a rare ability, to keep your head above water like that, and I think more people would be happy in life if they could manage it.
I'm not tagging anyone. I'm a rebel.
