My Run-In With the Law

May 13, 2006 18:50

Well it finally happened. I got my first speeding ticket.

::sigh:: It was bound to happen. Everytime I'm speeding on the 35-minute drive to work each day, I'm positive that this will be the day that a police officer is sitting in their car, just over the next hill, waiting for me.

Yesterday I left work just after 7pm when I had to race my tired ass all the way over to the Dryden Theatre so I could make it to an ImageOut showing of Simon. I desperately wanted to get there on time, because I was told that I could be introduced to a guy who worked at the Democrat & Chronicle and he might have some advice for me about getting a foot in the door there. So doing 74 miles an hour down Route 64, where the speed limit is 55, I was pulled over. :-/

Luckily, the police officer was nice enough about it, and told me that since it was my first offense, he'd reduce it to "Disobeyed a Traffic Control Device," which apparantly isn't nearly as bad. Not that I have an idea what kind of fine I'd be looking at for this ticket either way.

A side note: Should I be worried that my court date is June 6? As in 6/06/06... at 6pm? Matt says I should be very worried and that Satan will likely be presiding over court that day.

And the guy from the D&C never did show up to the screening.
