of Cards, Canals and Coiffure

I know I haven't posted artwork on here in ages, but it's not for lack of drawing.
I ended up working on a few extra Sci-Fi Sketchcards for Breygent Marketing over the New Year.
The set is finished, packaged and ready to be released soon!
I'm now working on a second set for Breygent, under the theme The Wizard of Oz.
This is a followup set to an earlier release by Breygent.
Although the timeline for this Oz project is the same as the Sci-Fi project, I have more than twice as many cards to do, and to my eye more detail to draw. I thought I'd be stressing big time but this project is moving along smoothly and quickly.
I made sure to identify what was slowing me down in the previous set and learned a lot about improving my workflow. By changing media, materials, eliminating needless detail, utilizing colors more effectively, heck, even changing my posture - I'm able to improve my productivity. Also, I'm a happier little art boy because I'm not stressed and for the most part, my back isn't as sore.
I have to produce some scans of what I've finished so far so that Breygent can put them on their website. As soon as they do, I'll post the scans here as well.

Here are a couple more photos from the Imperial Valley.
The Imperial Valley is a agricultural community. It's full of fields and field workers and growing things. To help growing things keep growing you need water and Imperial Valley is full of it. Water, I mean.
There is an intricate series of canals stretching over the whole Valley, some small and some large, everywhere you go.
To a local they're commonplace and boring. For the most part they're right. But as the Valley evolves I'm finding some redeeming quality to the original channels.

When I was young they were all dirt. Some as wide as two or three car lengths. I'd go fishing in them with friends. We'd drive out in the middle of the night and skip rocks of 'em and have intellectual debates about whose girlfriend used more tongue.
We were in the middle of the freakin' desert - we didn't have lakes or rivers. Just dirt, sand and these canals.

Like the buildings in town, the canals are being modernized into functional but lackluster objects.
Some of the smaller ones have been eliminated completely as the fields they supplied are swallowed up by MegaMarts and Tire Shops. Many of the larger ones have been downsized and/or coated in cement. I'm sure this is much more practical - but with no grass, no rocks, no color. . heck I don't even think they have fish - they're not much to look at anymore.

In other news: I'm a raggamuffin. My hair continues to grow and I haven't shaved. If you see me on the street give me some change. It's only a matter of time before I look like THIS.
