Hey, gang!
I've been up to my armpits in work lately, between new freelance work, my regular 9 to 5, and preparing for my big move next month, I haven't found time to post about the things I've wanted to!
Here's the good news!
One of the outcomes from this move to Minnesota is that I'll be doing freelance full time.
That means more time at home drawing funny noses and less time in a cramped, badly lit office pounding out thirty dollar business card orders. That also means more time to focus on my blog, which I've never had the time to update as I'd like to.
Turning our attention to OTHER people's blogs:
Steve Worth over at the
ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive has been posting some GREAT stuff lately.
(Did I mention I'll have more time to keep up with great blog posts like these??)
The Training of a Golden Age Animator
Steve and crew paid a visit to the family home
Carlo Vinci! A fantastic animator who was responsible for many of the moving images you loved in Mighty Mouse and the Flintstones. But not just an animator - like many in those days he was an all around gifted artist and illustrator. Put your peepers on some of the gorgeous works Steve was able to capture.
Unbelievable! Being an 'artist' today means being able to draw a smiley face in a circle. But Vinci (and many of his contemporaries) were extremely skilled and educated artists! How could you read this post and not want to do everything in your power to improve your drawing skills?
Comics: Basil Wolverton On Cartoon Sounds: PART IIComics: Basil Wolverton On Cartoon Sounds: PART II
Why, when I saw this post my heart went PHLIPPET! PHLUPPET! FIP! and my eyes grew immensely and with a resounding SHPLORT!
A humorous essay from MAD man Basil Wolverton on cartoon sound effects!
Also - details to a showing of his work in Santa Ana!
Voice Over: Mel Blanc On Advertising
I haven't listened to this one yet, but it's sure to be a hoot!
A recording of a speech by Blanc at the 1966 Annual Awards Luncheon of the Station Representatives Association.
"Mel Blanc Takes A Humorous Look At Commercials: Past, Present and Future (Who The Hell Is Mel Blanc?)"
Be sure to comment on your favorite posts and tell Steve that you appreciate all the hard work that goes into archiving these wonderful treasures!
MAD man and soon to be Minnesota neighbor Tom Richmond recently posted a particularly handsome caricature on his blog. And very talented cartoonist and caricaturist Pete Emslie has made my list of wonderful blogs I struggle to keep up with
