Sunday Morning in Melbourne

This is so amazing. I called a taxi early to get over to where Ben&Lena were staying, to go on to the airport, back to Sydney. The car turned up right on time, and I chatted with the driver on the way over. He was Italian-accented, and 50ish and an allround nice chap. So. We get outside the house and I pay and tip (as I always do) and he says:

"Have you ever had 'bullock'? Have you had breakfast?"

I look a bit blank and say 'no'.

"There's a great bakery round the corner, they make it fresh. I buy you some. They have cheese, meat and spinach."

I tell him I'm a veggie and that the cheese sounds nice, but that I really ought to meet my friends.

"No, no, it's 2 minutes round the corner."

And so we drive off up the road, turn right, and park outside the bakery.

He comes out a couple of mintues later with a bag full of milk and bread and things - and a paper bag for me.

"I buy you this, because you tipped me. Here you are."

So this mystery baked item is filo pastry-ish, with a ricotta cheese filling, and is very yummy, even at an ungodly hour of the day. And I'm laughing and thanking him and he is driving me back round the corner and I meet up with Ben&Lena and they identify this stuff as Bureik, which I *think* is Turkish / Middle Eastern. And highly recommended by me. Especially if you can find a taxi driver willing to buy it for you.
