It's a sad day in LJ-land, my friends. I know it's kind of silly to be this upset (and I'm pretty sure transitorial thinks I'm overreacting just a bit because she says I should have expected this all from LJ by now, especially after 'Strikethrough' et al) but I am ( Read more... )

I've got both discokali and mellow_dk over there, but I don't know which one I'd use if I switched. As much as LJ is pissing me off, I just dislike DW. Maybe when they're out of beta, and it's as easy and open to create accounts there as it is on LJ, I'll actually consider switching.

It just doesn't foster wank, and crazy the way LJ does.

Added both, just in case. I can't say I'm a huge fan of DW, either, but then, I've never used the site for any period of time, so I don't know. I don't know if they're ever going to open up journal creation, though. Think they might stay primarily invite-only minus open events like this week. Like JournalFen (although hopefully the servers actually ARE robust).

I dunno, man. There are stories. But as long as there are still some people and fandom here on LJ, I won't abandon it entirely. I'll just spend my days being very very sad. :( Like that. Sad.

I'm kind of torn. I don't want to give LJ any money. I have a paid account because it's the only way to track threads instead of a whole post, and now without subject lines, that's going to be the best way to follow what's going on. But I hate them and want to impact their pockets.

Grrrr.

Rock and a hard place. I know transitorial probably isn't renewing her account when it runs out in a couple weeks. Supposedly a lot of other people aren't, either. But then, seeing the article someone posted about how LJ got $72 million USD from blogshopping in Singapore this year alone, I find it hard to see how our insignificant protests will ever matter to them.

I still wouldn't give them any more money. But then, I'm sitting on a perm account, so I can say that but still keep my stuff.

The thing is, a lot of the people I know of that are Singapore LJ users are all in fandom, so it may actually have an impact.

Maybe. I mean, I hope it would, but at the same time, I've still got juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust enough brand loyalty that I don't want LJ to crash and burn completely. Just fire everyone above the tech support monkeys and go back to not being lame.

I really just don't understand why they're removing functionality. If they're making millions of dollars around the world, and people aren't spending that at Facebook, why do they assume that we'd rather have that kind of site.

It's not an either or, people have Facebook and Tumblr and LJ. Making LJ act more like the other sites aren't going to lure people away from the competition, it's just going to piss of the people that use you instead of the competition.
