One second I was with Angel, asleep and lost somewhere in dream land and in the next my eyes were wide open. Like a flash I was in a bed somewhere and Connor's lips were pressed to mine. Connor? Finally he pulled away and I looked up into his bruised and battered face for only a few minutes trying to shake away the remnants of the dream I'd just had. Shit. Was I Sleeping Beauty?
"I just had the most fucked up dream." And you were there, and you were there, and you. Okay, this wasn't exactly Kansas and that bizarre little dream hadn't exactly been Oz. So weird though. I had the feeling like that was supposed to be my version of my perfect life except my perfect life wasn't all that perfect. In fact, it was anything but. Grace was dead, Alec was a slut, Lexi was a slut, Kennedy was a slut- pretty much everyone was a slut. Including me, doing the gardener.
Okay, the gardener. I had to laugh at least a little bit about that one.
Sitting up slightly I looked around before looking back at Connor. "How long have I been asleep and what the hell happened to you?" I asked him with a small yawn as I sat up in bed.
I'd managed to get through the castle without too much trouble. Sure there were a couple of guards who had to be knocked out, but it wasn't too bad. Once I found her, I kissed her, and then she opened those big brown eyes. I'd missed her.
"A while. I can't keep track of time here. We got separated and you ended up sleeping beauty and I ended up playing the role of Jack with the bean stalk. Fucking giant."
Looking around the castle, I wondered if it would be as easy to get out of here as it was to get in. Somehow I doubted it. And where the hell were we supposed to go next? Where was the key we needed? This was getting to be a pain in the ass. How long had we even been gone.
"How do you feel? You ready to fight your way out if we need too?" I hoped she was because I was starting to long for a nap. Maybe we could trade. I'd be sleeping beauty for awhile and she could jump ahead in the story.
So that was how his face ended up all bruised and beat up. He'd been fighting with a giant. Man! How come he got to fight the giant and I had to be the stupid princess? Definitely not fuckin' fair if you ask me but that was another part of the problem. Nothing was ever fair, right? How easily Harry's words could come back to haunt me.
"I think I feel okay." I shrugged as I sat out and stretched a little bit. I felt a little week, kinked up. Like I'd been laying in the same spot for months but the truth was? I felt ten times better than I had when I'd first walked into this castle, before I'd met Aidan upstairs and he'd poked me with his stupid needle. I knew what it was right away. The performance enhancers had all cleared out of my system by now. I was free. Or at least, as free as I could ever be.
"You look exhausted though." I said, concerned as I gently reached out a hand and rubbed my thumb over a large bruise blossoming just to the left of his eye. I wasn't usually this gentle or tender with Connor but I missed my kids and this was more how I would act towards them.
"Do you wanna rest before we go?" I asked him. The bed was gigantic and had plenty of room for him to nap if he wanted to.
"I don't think it's a good idea for us to rest in a castle where you were in a coma. We'll get back to the forest and then I'll crash while you take look out."
The tenderness of her touch surprised me, but I leaned into it anyway. I'd missed her while we were separated. It was bad enough I dragged her down to this hell dimension with me. The least I could do was keep better track of her from now on.
"I passed a cottage on my way here. maybe we can crash there for awhile." Because cottages in forests are always a good thing. Better than castles at least right?
I stood up and searched the room looking for some kind of weapons. Of course I found nothing because this was a princess's room, and since when do they trust a princess to fight? They picked the wrong princess then because Faith would take all their asses out if they tried to stop us from leaving.
