According to "the buzz," Apple's newest update will brick your phone if you have any 3rd party software installed on it (3rd party software requires a certain unlocker, and the presence of that unlocker will result in phone-death). They also will not support nor replace it as you voided your warranty with your 3rd party additions.

I can understand the warranty bit to a certain extent because of a terms of service violation or some such. I unlocked my phone knowing full well that I risk such a thing. But killing the phone via an automatic update? To me, it's like their saying, "Even though you paid us lots of money, your phone is still our property and we say 'No modifications.'" It's ridiculous. They are overstepping their bounds. Breaking the unlocker is expected, breaking the phone is unnecessary. As such, their now involved in a class action lawsuit. I honestly hope they are successful.
