This still annoys me.
I hate when people say they are 'proud' of their favorite team. Seriously, unless you play on the team or you personally contribute in some way to the team's victory then you can't be proud. That makes no sense. I'm not proud of Skittles despite being consistently capable of making me happy. I have as much bearing on Skittles' deliciousness as most people do their favorite team. Seriously, you aren't part of something just for cheering on a team. A team is just a bunch of people! What if those people changed teams? Would you follow them or continue to cheer for the new team? The former at least makes a LITTLE sense, though not much.
For all this nonsense about the Olympics you'd think that each and every one of us were in control or something. If 100% of this country was forced to do the events to represent the USA then sure, be proud if you win. You did your part. But only the person doing the event and their trainer(s) can be 'proud' when/if they win. OK, MAYBE the friends/family because I'm sure they played a part in motivation. But for every 'This little girl in AZ was sick and she said my skating encouraged her to stay strong' there is NOT an equal number of 'Some douchebag in TX said I sucked so eff it, I quit. I'm never skating again.' People who excel will do so because it's in them to be amazing. Don't be proud of them for choosing NOT to be the same lazy bastard as the rest of us. It's OUR bad, not THEIR good.
Anyways, whatever. Annoyed with this all the time lately.
