As I understand it, civil unions are exactly the same as marriage, except for the terminology: gay people can never say they are married in a civil union. That's what people wanted changed. I was against this, until I learned more about it.

Prop 8 had nothing to do with religion or religious unions. Churches that believe otherwise are run by idiots or people who are not doing their research, and are making their decisions based on bigotry.

Divorce is a perfectly legal civil right, and yet it goes against Christianity. Divorce became legal, and yet it has not been forced into churches; no one legalized divorce and then went to the Vatican and demanded it follow suit and make God be cool with it. Why are Christians okay with divorce being legal, but not okay with gay marriage? (Not to mention all the other shit that Christians are okay with when it comes to "traditional" marriage; spontaneous and short-lived vegas marriages, anyone? Celebrities being married for 2 days and then divorcing, anyone?) Prop 8's goal was to take away the ( ... )

I wasn't really talking about Prop 8. This was a snippet/retyping of something in a completely different forum. The original poster was talking about being gay and Christian. It pissed me off ( ... )

The stone to death men that are found lying with men passage is in the Old Testament, which theoretically is completely replaced by the New Testament, as I understand it. So only Jews should be attacking gays.

But then, my understanding of the particulars of Christian texts and precedents is REALLY rusty.

Well said (aside from rabidbolding). The claims that "marriage is our word!" when trying to change a completely different usage of said word made me FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
