After 28 hours or so of Soul Calibur 4, I have 3 complaints. I actually have more, but 3 really stick out and piss me off.

First, the PS3 has 2 more buttons than the 360 but you can't set inputs to them. That is just wrong, seeing as I use all 4 top buttons and would really like shortcuts to SWP and all 4 face buttons (I set the top 4 to the same buttons I've used since Soul Edge). These cross-platform games that don't utilize the PS3's strengths are only really making lackluster PS3 games. At least the install makes the load times non-issues.

Second, and this has been a major complaint pretty much since SC2 came out, is how easy it is to be rung out. Rang out? Ringed out? Whatever. It is infuriating to go through 15 floors of survival, still have over 100% health, only to be knocked out of the ring by a counter-hit throw. No possible way for this not to happen, even with Anti-Ringout S equipped. It's cheap. Also, much like my main beef with Tekken 6, you SPLAT against the wall and can be pummeled with little-no chance of escape. Tekken 4, in all it's horror, at least had the ability to spin off the wall and escape. Who decided to take that much-needed feature out, because they deserve a throat-chop.

Last issue, the game lacks the polish of SCs in the past. No weapon exhibitions, no 3d character profiles that allow you to spin the camera and look at the levels, no level profiles, no vibration (really, WTF is up with no rumble?), and only 720p graphics. Sequels need to have at LEAST every feature of the previous games, even if they add very little more. And 720p? What is this, 2005? This is the time for 1080p, 7.1 uncompressed audio, and HOURS of extra material on-disk.

All in all, SC4 is neck and neck with SC3 as my favorite in the series. SC3 certainly had more modes & extras (and more polish...SC4 feels like it needed another 6 months to cook), but with the superior character creator, Hilde, Darth freaking Vador, and better graphics it might nudge it out. We'll see once I have more VS time in.
