Boy A

'Boy A' is the most beautiful, adorable, tragic, insightful.. PERFECT film I have ever seen.

I've never felt this way about a film before.  I feel like it's such a film I would want to make; it reminded me of why I want to write.

I feel that everyone should go watch it because it's so wonderful, moving and it really reminds you to be accepting and understanding... I keep trying to persuade my mum and sister that even paedophiles deserve to have a life as nothing is entirely that person's fault - it's our experiences that shape us and with paedophiles and some murderers etc. it's something wrong with their brain and they need to be kept away from people so they don't hurt people.. but they're still a person.  It's not their fault they're like that.  They need compassion.
(If you check my "serious discussion mode" tag I wrote a post on corporal punishment and I talk a bit about all this - and there are some brilliant comments from other people too)

I feel that this film might help change people's minds about things, be more tolerant.

I feel such shame that I can't do this film and these thoughts justice with my words!  That last sentence just underlines that lack of ability to articulate.  It's all very depressing.

As I'm clearly extremely ineloquent, I read this review on Amazon and I feel absolutely exactly the same way so it would feel a bit superfluous for me to continue in my ramblings when this exists (even if this way is slightly plagiaristic)..

I guess my review will be a little biased as I'm fascinated by the psychology behind our upbringings and how it shapes us. I'm also very much pro-rehabilitation so found this film extremely moving.

I really don't want to give too much away because it's better to see the story unfold for yourself but this is basically the story of how the main character is coping with life outside of 'prison' after having grown up there for committing a serious crime when he was very young.

He gets a job and makes friends and goes to the pub. He does all the things 'normal' people do whilst having to live with the guilt of what he's done. The flashbacks to his childhood are so powerful. I think I cried a bit too much whilst watching this!!

I found this film very engaging but also at times quite difficult to watch due to the nature of his crime. Particularly how closely it relates to things we've seen in the news in the past. However, I think that adds to the tone of the film and makes you think about what you're watching a lot more.

It didn't change my stance on rehabilitation and I would be really interested to find out what it did for other people!
All in all, I am so in love with this film and all it stands for.  It is a masterpiece.
