We're all concerned about how gross you look. (btvs 2:18)
So yeah, I’ve been sick. Not feel-like-I’m-dying sick, just annoying-head-cold-that-sticks-around sick. And it’s made me cranky and whiny and low on energy. Fortunately I didn’t have to travel anywhere for Christmas because my family (mom, dad, brother and brother’s girlfriend) converged at my apartment for Christmas. I don’t have the biggest apartment ever but we all fit comfortably (fyi: they slept at a hotel - it wasn’t that cozy). And my mom - who’s very awesome - prepared the meal so basically I just had to show up in my own apartment and try not to sneeze on anyone. I feel very spoiled by the lovely Christmas and all the fabulous gifts I received (of fannish interest: I got a Puppet Angel, the Vamp!Xander action figure and the Scruffy Wesley action figure).
I’m finally feeling mostly better today (*fingers crossed*) - which is good because on Sunday I’m heading out to visit the fabulous girlfriend! I’m so excited about visiting with Camisha - we’ll have just over a week together. Of course, I would be more excited if I wasn’t flying through Denver. I’ve spoken to my airline and apparently it’s possible that things should be cleared up by then and it should be alright when I fly through there. But I’ll have to keep calling and checking that the flight’s still confirmed, because if not, they will re-route me … but that could mean I won’t arrive for New Year’s Eve which had been my original plan.
So in an effort to not stress out, I thought I’d tell you my top 10 list of TV shows for 2006 (ie. the shows I enjoyed the most this past year). Oh! I am planning to do my fic wrap-up but I probably won’t have that ready to post till the new year.
My Top 10 TV Shows of 2006 - spoiler free!
1. Everwood - I am still sad that Everwood ended last spring. However, I am very very happy with the series finale - it was everything a fan could want from the show and more. Despite the show being wrapped up so well, I miss it so much.
2. 24 - Last season was so cracktastically awesome! This is a show that can actually still surprise me. I’m so impressed that five seasons in, 24 is still an interesting and entertaining show.
3. The Office - One of the shows that can make me laugh and feel uncomfortable simultaneously. The characters and storylines continue to be surprisingly good and complex.
4. Battlestar Galactica - It took me a while to catch up watching because I’d heard how dark this season is. And it is. Deliciously dark. To keep this spoiler-free I will just say that the scene with Colonel Tigh after the credits in Exodus part two would be enough to have BSG included on my list.
5. Scrubs - This is the show that can have me laughing hysterically at the beginning of the episode and crying at the end. Scrubs rarely disappoints and I love it for that.
6. Grey’s Anatomy - Awesome ensemble cast, interesting storylines and refusing to go the usual route is just some of the reasons I love GA. Even when there’s angst - and there’s often lots of it - GA gives me so much joy.
7. Everybody Hates Chris - Such a consistently good, funny, smart and heart-warming show. If you’re not watching Everybody Hates Chris - start watching! The first season’s on DVD. And the second season’s airing Mondays at 8pm on UPN.
8. How I Met Your Mother - I admit it, I was a Friends fan. In fact, when I’m feeling crappy, I’ll flick to a Friends rerun and watch. I think that HIMYM fills a similar role as Friends did for me: the whole funny ensemble, single twenty-ish folks living in NYC. Of course to say that undervalues the good writing and interesting things that happen on HIMYM. I suspect that even if you didn’t like Friends, you may like HIMYM.
9. Heroes - Each week I get such a kick out of watching this show. This is truly fun entertainment. And I just LOVE Hiro - I swear that his enthusiasm on the show is contagious and has increased my love for Heroes.
10. Bones - I’m so happy that David Boreanaz’s series is not only doing well but is actually damn good. I love watching this show. I have such affection for the entire ensemble, they really make this more than another procedural.
It’s so weird to not have Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars on my list, especially since I really enjoyed the second season of VM. I’ve been very unhappy with the direction that both shows have taken this season - they’re not giving me that joy they used to. I’m sticking with them and hoping things will turn around in the new year. I also just saw the first two episodes of Ugly Betty and am totally charmed by the show so am excited to see more. I also have yet to see Friday Night Lights despite being excited to see it. I will see it!
So that’s it for me for now. I hope you all have been having a wonderful holiday season and I wish you all a Happy New Year!
