It’s been a rough last few days for me, so I figured what better distraction than to talk about TV?! I haven’t really had the energy to do thoughtful critiques or even simple reactions like “I loved it” or “blah”, so I thought I’d give you a run down of what I’ve been enjoying, what I haven’t and what I haven’t even watched yet. There’s very minimal spoilers in my comments.
Shows I’ve Been Loving:
Heroes - One of the ways I gauge if a show is good is whether I enjoy re-watching it. Shows that I love (ie. BtVS, AtS, Joan of Arcadia and VM), I enjoy just as much or more when re-watching. Heroes has successfully passed that test. It’s a show that entertains me, interests me, and that makes me happy. And I LOVE the character of Hiro sooooo much, his enthusiasm is so wonderful. I’ve uploaded 2 icons of him because he’s so joy-inducing.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Love the cast, love the dialogue and love that it’s about TV. I really hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
How I Met Your Mother - Consistently makes me laugh. And I love the cast, especially Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and the guy who plays Marshall (I’m too lazy to look up his name). Actual laugh out loud fun.
Grey’s Anatomy - I continue to be impressed by how good this show is. If they would focus a bit more on Meredith’s relationship with her mom, that would make me even happier.
Battlestar Galactica - Dark and harsh and hard to watch, but so well done. I cried and cried during the Tigh scene - that was really impressive.
Veronica Mars - This is mostly included in this part of the list because I love the characters and just watching the show makes me happy. I wish they’d give Logan more depth this season. I’m uncomfortable with the portrayal of the feminists. I want more Wallace, Weevil and Mac. But an episode of VM still fills me with joy.
Bones - Really great season so far, I’m looking forward to it returning from hiatus.
The Office - I’m really pleased with where the show has gone after last season’s finale. And I enjoy Jim’s new co-workers.
My Name is Earl - Still awesome. I loved the episodes about circus freaks and with Amy Sedaris.
Shows I’m Enjoying:
The Amazing Race - There’s a bunch of interesting teams and some of the episodes have been pretty exciting. I like Kentucy, the brothers and Lousiana.
Lost - So, deciding NOT to watch this show somehow freed me up to just watch and enjoy. I actually feel that this season has been more interesting than the beginning of last season.
Jericho - I sit back, not think too much and am just entertained by the weekly crises they overcome. And I am a bit intrigued by some of the larger mysteries of the show.
House - I miss House’s snark and will welcome his return from hiatus.
Everybody Hates Chris - Second season is going well. Really enjoying.
Corner Gas - The only Canadian show I watch. Still funny and good fun.
Shows That I’m Not All About:
Supernatural - Remember my comment about determining a show is good if I enjoy it on re-watch? Well, sadly, SPN doesn’t pass my test. I enjoyed the season premiere and since then I’ve been unimpressed. This is disappointing because I really enjoyed the show last year. I was actually laughing at an episode last night because of the ridiculously long shots of the boys brooding (and there was some wincing at bad acting too). I hope this is a brief lull and things will get better, because there’s lots of potential especially with the expansion of the demon hunting world.
Gilmore Girls - It feels weird to have GG on this part of my list. I am still enjoying episodes but am overall feeling kind of blah about the season. Now, I must admit that this is the only show is which I’m a shipper: for Luke/Lorelei. So this could be why I’m not enjoying as much. Of course, I will continue to loyally watch because it’s still a good show.
30 Rock - This is a show that should be funny … but it’s not. I don’t think I’ve laughed once yet.
Twenty Good Years - I love Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow so I’m entertained by them, but the show itself isn’t working for me.
Shows on my PVR that I Haven’t Seen Yet (or have only seen 1 episode of):
Friday Night Lights
Ugly Betty
Smallville
Numb3rs
Dancing with the Stars - I’ve seen more than one episode, but I’m now weeks behind.
I must say that overall I’m underwhelmed by a lot of the TV shows this season. (This could be more a reflection of how I'm feeling.) There better be some exciting things in November! I’m most excited about Heroes right now. *hearts* Hiro.
