And now for the third and final part of my talk about the Emmys ... and of course, I'll soon get to give away some more Cordelianne Emmys!!!
Let's get this show over with! On to Part Three
The next presenters: Eva Longoria and James Woods.
Outstanding Made for Television Movie
I watched none of these movies. And the winner was The Girl in the Café.
OMG it's Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart!!!!!!! heee to Stephen Colbert calling us "godless sodomites". teehee to Jon Stewart reading the "award show pablum". I LOVE Stephen Colbert breaking down about losing to Barry Manilow. Good times.
Best Reality show - Competition
I'm rooting for the Amazing Race and it won!! Oh! It's so awesome to hear Phil talking about "detours", now I want to watch the show this year!! Wow this is it's 4th win in a row!
Omar Epps and Katherine Heidel are presenting together. Wow! This is definitely the prettiest combo so far!!
Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special
And Elizabeth I won, which I didn't see. *goes back to looking at the pretty presenters*
Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Special
Richard Curtis for The Girl in the Cafe. Yay for a no-show winner!
Edie Falco and James Gandolfini are presenting. Wow! She looks hot in that red dress. Clearly, we've come to my shallow portion of the evening.
Outstanding Miniseries
And the winner is Elizabeth I.
The In Memoriam part always makes me teary.
Felicity Huffman and Keifer Sutherland - yay! I adore them both!!!
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie
I always find the miniseries part boring because I never watch the miniseries. And the winner is: Helen Mirren. I do adore Helen Mirren, who looks gorgeous in that white dress, so elegant. Three cheers for Helen Mirren for advocating more good roles to be written for women.
Calista Flockhart and Craig Ferguson are presenting. And I am *not* excited that Calista Flockhart is coming back to telelvision.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
I must say in an ideal world Kristen Bell would have been nominated. Oh god, it's Mariska Hargitay who won - they did this just as a test to see if I can spell her name correctly twice in one night. Anyway, on to the real nominees:
Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars , Veronica Mars - UPN.
Emily Deschanel as Dr. Temperance Brennan, Bones - Fox.
Mary McDonnell as Laura Roslin, Battlestar Galactica - SciFi.
Katee Sackhoff as Lt Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace, Battlestar Galactica - SciFi.
Emily VanCamp as Amy Abbott, Everwood - the WB.
My winner is: Emily VanCamp as Amy Abbott, Everwood
Emily VanCamp has impressed me over the years by her subtle and layered portrayal of Amy Abbott. It was neat to see Amy struggling to find herself in school, be there for her family, deal with the changes in her friendship with Hannah and realize that she still loves Ephram. And, by the way, Emily just barely beat Kristen Bell out, helped by this having been the final season of Everwood.
- Commercial
Yay for Victor Garber, and not so much with the yay for Tyra Banks. I am giggling at them doing an "extended comic romp" together.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
*sigh* None of the people I nominated were nominated by the Emmys. And it's Julia Louis-Dreyfus (also an actress I had trouble getting her name right the first time). She does look nice in that dress. Now to my awards:
Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore, Gilmore Girls - the WB.
Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid, Scrubs - NBC.
Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls - the WB.
Reba McEntire as Reba Hart, Reba - the WB.
Jaime Pressly as Joy, My Name is Earl - NBC.
My winner is: Reba McEntire as Reba Hart, Reba
The main reason I love Reba (besides the lesbian subtext) is Reba McEntire’s portrayal of the hard-working mom, who totally loves her family and is good at dealing with the many different challenges her family experiences. She’s a really talented comedic actress.
Virginia Madsen and Ray Liotta are presenting:
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Wow - I actually have one nominee in common (Kiefer as Jack Bauer, of course!). Oh! Kiefer won!!! Oh yay! I'm sooo excited!! Yay for the fellow Canadian! I heart Keifer so much and this was such a good season of 24!! He's making me cry by saying about being given too much, he sounds so genuinely thankful. Now, let's get to my nominees:
Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls, Veronica Mars - UPN.
Edward James Olmos as Commander William Adama, Battlestar Galactica - SciFi.
Gregory Smith as Ephram Brown, Everwood - the WB.
Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, 24 - Fox.
Treat Williams as Dr. Andrew Brown, Everwood - the WB.
My winner is: Gregory Smith as Ephram Brown, Everwood
Okay, I admit it. I totally have a soft spot for Ephram. Sure Logan Echolls is totally my woobie and he’s such an interesting and complex character but we’ve watched Ephram Brown develop and grow over 4 years. It was very cool to see him learn how to forgive, become a teacher and mentor, and give Amy her space this year. I look forward to seeing Gregory Smith in other roles because he’s so talented, but Ephram will always be in my heart.
- Commercial
Conan's presenting with Bob Newhart, who they let out of the container!
OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES
Oh, I share three nominations with the Emmys this time: Arrested Development, The Office and Scrubs And The Office won! I'm so torn because I LOVE LOVE that show and it's so awesome and deserving but I wanted Scrubs or Arrested Development to win too! Of course The Office did have a phenomenal season. I'm happy, I'd be happier if they could all win! Anyway, here's my nominees:
Arrested Development - Fox.
Gilmore Girls - the WB.
The Office - NBC.
Reba - the WB.
Scrubs - NBC.
My winner is: Arrested Development
This show should win the Emmy just for that amazing episode that satirized all the ridiculous ways networks court viewers during Sweeps, but fortunately it had so many great episodes and moments it doesn't need to win on just one episode. No other show could consistently crack me and shock me at its daring. It will be missed. Thank god for DVDs.
Annette Benning is presenting - yay for Annette.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
I have two nominations in common (24 and Grey's Anatomy). OMG!!! 24 won!!! I actually yelled in excitement when it was announced. I'm sooo happy! It had such an awesome season!! Very well-deserved. Aww, I just saw David Fury on the stage! I'm feeling all sappy right now. But I really should do my nominees now:
24 - Fox.
Battlestar Galactica - SciFi.
Everwood - WB
Grey's Anatomy - ABC.
Veronica Mars - UPN.
My winner is: Everwood
This was definitely one of the most under-rated, if not the most under-rated, shows on television. It would constantly have me declaring "This is the best show on TV." Everwood deftly explored issues without coming down on one side of an issue, rather examining all sides and aspects of an issue. It would let the viewer think - I know, shocking concept! Everwood had it all: wonderful acting, writing and directing. Everwood will be sadly missed by me.
Wow! And we're done! I have no witty final words, I'm just going to end as abrutly as the awards show itself. Night!
