Work's been all stressful this week (thanks in part to all the preparations for Pride this weekend) and my co-worker/friend and I had to - temporarily - take apart our desks and computers for Pride-related reasons... but that means I have a three day weekend!! Yay!

The Emmy nomination ballots are being prepared, and since the shows that I love rarely get nominated, I thought it would be fun to give them some love. Because I'm feeling unoriginal, I'm blatantly stealing the categories from TV Gal's Nominations for the 2006 Amy Awards (I love her awards because the categories, nominations and winners are all decided by the readers of her column). WARNING: Spoilers for Veronica Mars season 2 for numbers 1 & 5 and for Everwood and Smallville behind the cut Here's my take on the TV Gal awards categories:

1. Floor, Please Give Me My Jaw Back (a.k.a. Most Shocking Moment)
Definitely Cassidy being revealed to be behind the bus crash on the Veronica Mars finale. I totally didn't believe it at first.

2. Best Scene Stealer
Oh man, this is a hard category because I tend to love the scene stealers. Here's my list:
Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars), Joy (My Name is Earl), Barney (How I Met Your Mother), Bright (Everwood), Paris (Gilmore Girls), and Chloe (24).

3. Let's Lemon Law This (a.k.a. Worst Show)
Again, this is difficult. Partly because I either don't watch shows I think are horrible or I watch them and enjoy the badness. I have to go with 7th Heaven because that show should just end. Stop the pain!!

4. They May Take Our Shows But They'll Never Take Our Love for Them (a.k.a. Show that Ended/Was Canceled Way Too Soon)
Okay, so I'm tempted to select Arrested Development but it always felt like a miracle that it was on the air in the first place and every time it was renewed I was amazed (I just bought Season 1 of it today for $24.99!!). So the show that I am still mourning is Everwood. Definitely one of the best - often the best - show on television which had wonderfully complex characters and intelligent storylines.

5. You Can Say That Again (a.k.a. Best Quote)
My first two answers are Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars), which is not a surprise I expect.

From "Green Eyed Monster:
LOGAN: My day is complete. Veronica Mars has accused me of evil.

From "Look Who's Stalking":
LOGAN: I thought our story was epic, you know? You and me.
VERONICA: Epic how?
LOGAN: Spanning years and continents. Lives ruined, bloodshed, epic. But summer's almost here. And we won't see each other at all. Then you'll leave town then...it's over.
VERONICA: Logan...
LOGAN: I'm sorry. About last summer. You know, if I could do it over...
VERONICA: Come on. Ruined lives, bloodshed? You really think a relationship should be that hard?
LOGAN: No one writes songs about the ones that come easy.

The other two are both Scrubs's awesome tv references.

From "My Chopped Liver":
Turk (watching Gilmore Girls): Mothers and daughters. They speak so fast but they speak so true.
Turk (on the phone): Did you see it?
J.D (on the phone): I can’t talk about it. I’m so mad at Lorelei right now.

From "My Buddy's Booty":
Elliot: JD, I really don't wanna do this. Can't we just go home, and put on our PJs and watch "Grey's Anatomy"?
JD: Oh, I do love that show. It's like they've been watching our lives and just... put it on TV.

6. The Awards Shows Don't Love You But We Do (a.k.a. Most Underrated Cast or Actor)
Ack. This is too hard! *flails* Okay, the casts of Veronica Mars, Everwood, Gilmore Girls, Scrubs and Battlestar Galactica.

7. They Made Us Wait for This? (a.k.a. Worst Season/Series Finale)
This is a bad category for me to do because I still haven't seen all my season finales yet (I know! I am unimpressed with myself!). I'm going to say the Will & Grace series finale because of all the horrible flash-forwards with bad aging make-up.

8. Til Death Do Us Part (a.k.a. Best Death)
This is another tricky one because there's a few well done ones to choose from:

Irv's death on Everwood was handled with the show's usual class and dignity, and so heart-breaking.

Jonathan Kents death on Smallville was actually dealt with okay by the show. Sure it was completely emotionally manipulative in the last sequence but still made me cry.

9. Beating a Dead Horse (a.k.a. Why Does TV Gal Still Talk About This Show?)
See? It's now obvious I just cut and pasted categories. I'm going with the show I'm surprised I still talk about, and that would be Smallville (which I will continue to watch next year!!)

10. I Wouldn't Buy That If It Was on Sale (a.k.a. Worst Story line or Plot Twist)
Izzy's storyline in the finale of Grey's Anatomy, it just felt WAY over-the-top and out of character.

11. Resurrect Me (a.k.a. Character/Actor You Would Most Like to See Brought Back on Another Show Next Season)
Every one of the BtVS/AtS actors and the cast of Everwood and Arrested Development. Yeah, I know I'm not answering the question properly but ... choices! *flails*

12. It's Like a Freaking Car Wreck (a.k.a. Best Guilty Pleasure)
Sadly my guilty pleasure has ended: Charmed. I used to marvel at the idiocy but just couldn't stop watching. Yeah, it's bad, but it's so bad it's good.

I'm using my Hannah/Bright Everwood icon because I love those characters and miss the show lots and lots.

So, as mentioned above, this weekend is Pride here in Toronto (actually all week is Pride week) which means I may not be around too much. Or it means I'll be around lots because I'll be overwhelmed by the crowds and commercialism. I'm planning a low-key Pride but these things always grow. So HAPPY PRIDE!!!!
