You are full of love. You love with all of your soul. (btvs 5:18)

I’ve haven’t watched all my weekly tv shows yet, but so far it’s been a very entertaining and good week for tv!!

The Golden Globes

I don’t think I ever want to watch another award show live again. I watched the Golden Globes on Tuesday night and fast-forwarded through commercials, blah speeches and the boring miniseries section.

Favourite moments:
- Hugh Laurie and Steve Carrel’s hilarious acceptance speeches for best actor in a tv drama and comedy respectively. It was also awesome when Lost won later (for best tv drama) and they also thanked Steve Carrel’s wife.
- Joaquin Phoenix winning for best actor in a comedy or musical, and then revealing that he’d bet against himself! Could I love him even more than I already do?!!
- Brokeback Mountain winning (and deserving) lots of awards.
- Ang Lee calling Clint Eastwood “the man” - so adorable!!

The boring parts:
- I don’t remember because I fast-forwarded through them!

Skating with Celebrities

Totally fun fluff, although I was disappointed that no “celebrities” got hurt during the episode. (I know, I’m evil.) It was funny to hear Kristy Swanson described as a “movie star”, hee! Also I loved when Lloyd Eisler (Canadian Figure Skating champion) who undeservedly lost multiple times said: “You all know that I don’t like judges.”

Smallville

Good job Smallville writers for going at least 4 episodes without a kryonite enhanced villain. Also, I’m impressed that the episode wasn’t a complete Panic Room rip off. I’m less impressed that Lana continues to live.

Did anyone else notice that when Lex was trying to tell Lana he loved her, that he was distracted by thoughts about Clark? I was giggling when he started rambling about how nice Clark’s hair is. The Clark/Lex relationship is practically canon on Smallville now.

So next week is the big character death (for the 100th episode). I just hope it’s not Clark’s dog, in typical Smallville “we always back down from doing anything daring” fashion. From what I’ve heard it actually will be one of the characters in the main credits that will die, although I don’t know who it will be. Fingers crossed that it’s Lana, although my friend’s prediction (based on comic book canon) is that it’ll be Jonathan Kent.

My Name is Earl

This is definitely one of my favourite Earl episodes so far!!

Favourite moments:
- Earl calling Kenny his “homosexual friend” (it sounds very endearing the way Earl says it).
- Earl putting the picture of him, Joy, Darnell and the kids at Joy & Darnell’s wedding on his desk.
- The “old gang” doing the slo-mo type power walk to the office.
- Randy in a boardroom talking and pointing to a pie chart (with his 4 empty beer cans on the ground).
- Joy not telling Darnell and the kids about the toe because she was worried their reactions wouldn’t be real enough. Joy’s completely fake horror.
- Darnell’s continued horror when they’re getting the cheque for the toe incident.

The Office

Despite the high cringe factor, this show has wormed it’s way into my heart. Oh Michael, you are the worst secret keeper ever! I am so rooting for Jim and Pam; they may be my favourite couple on tv right now. They’re so adorable. I loved Dwight in surveillance mode and his complete obliviousness to Oscar’s gayness.

24

I’ve stopped believing all those tv show promos that promise things that don’t happen (eg. The Smallville promo guy keeps hinting that Lana might die and then she never does!!), but the promo for 24 was actually fulfilled. It promised that “everything will change in the first 10 minutes” and it did!! They killed President Palmer - President Palmer WTF?!! - in such an unexpected way that I was completely shocked (it was reminiscent to when Warren killed Tara), and 24 can’t easily surprise me anymore. So just as I was thinking that was it for the surprises, Michelle got killed in a car bomb and Tony critically injured. It was very sad because I love all those characters, especially President Palmer.

The first 4 hours were some damn good tv, and the best 24 episodes ever. My love for Chloe continues to grow. Edgar is a great character. I love Curtis! Even the kid and the woman that Jack knew when he was “Frank” are interesting characters. Jean Smart as the President’s wife is awesome! President Logan is excellent as a more confident guy than we last saw him, who continues to be inept under pressure. Mike’s reaction to President Palmer’s death made me cry. We got D.B. Woodside as Palmer’s brother, yay! Sean Astin is bringing an interesting combo of impediment and helpfulness to the mix. Bill Buchan’s interactions with Astin’s character have been great. I even like Audrey this season.

I’m so excited and loving this season of 24 that I’m just rambling and gushing along in a glow of happiness. Even though I quickly figured out that “flank 2” was a code and that the guy in the suit was in with the terrorists, it was still some suspenseful and good tv. Despite hearing rumors that Kim will be back (hopefully without a cougar) I’m feeling very optimistic about this season!!

Battlestar Galatica 2.12

I’d be declaring 24 my favourite show of the week if it weren’t for the incredibly awesome BSG, which is definitely the #1 show right now!

“Resurrection Ship Part 2”, what rocked:

- The opening scenes of Apollo floating in space and in the water. Even the “48 hours earlier” device didn’t annoy me because we got these awesome scenes.
- Kara and Lee actually talking about her orders to kill Cain!! I’m frequently frustrated on tv when characters don’t talk to their close friends about something like this, because in real life most people would confide in someone. The best part about this scene is that they don’t come up with an ingenious solution to the problem; they basically are there for each other and express their friendship (again this feels very real).
- I like how the understated scene of Lee discovering that it was Roslin’s call to kill Cain sets up his existential crisis later in the episode. What’s awesome is that this is subtle and that the writers let us figure this out on our own.
- The Kara and Cain scene was chilling. While watching it I became convinced that Kara couldn’t kill Cain because she would become her.
- The Helo and Chief scene with the crew of Pegasus hurting them was upsetting but it also seemed logical that the killing of their superior officer would upset the crew of Pegasus (I’m too lazy to look up the name of the guy who was killed, so hopefully that last sentence makes sense).
- Kara and Colonel Fisk saying, “good hunting” to each other. Creepy, but good creepy.
- That the big space fight was secondary to Lee’s predicament and existential crisis.
- The haunting image of the cylon bodies flying out the resurrection ship. It reminded me of the miniseries when some Galactica staff were vented out of the ship to prevent the spread of fire.
- Adama’s scene with Sharon. Excellent callback to the show’s message, which Adama restates to Kara later: “It's not enough to survive. One has to be worthy of surviving.”
- Kara walking to kill Cain. I love that it’s clear she doesn’t want to do it, but will if Adama orders her to. Angst!!! Confliction!! It’s all good (to watch).
- Gina and Cain’s stand off.
- Kara’s speech at Cain’s funeral. I loved that her statement really questioned whether the death of Cain was ultimately a good thing: “Might be hard to admit, or hard to hear, but I think that we were safer with her... than we are without.”
- That Kara and Lee both talked to each other when they were alone. “I’m sorry, Kara.” “I wish you were here with me Lee.”
- Kara and Lee’s scene together when Lee says that he wanted to die. More angst in the future!
- Roslin and Adama’s scene was touching, but I don’t think their feelings for each other are romantic, rather they respect and care for each other deeply. It’s more of a romantic friendship. I think that Adam kissed her as sort of a good-bye.

What I love best about BSG is that it always explores the complexities of a situation and never portrays anything as all good or all evil. It reminds me of Everwood in the way it can maneuver the viewer through a variety of perspectives all of which could potentially be “right”. I’m so glad that I didn’t discover BSG until 2006 because otherwise my Best TV Shows of 2005 list would have expanded to 12 shows, since BSG is definitely one of the best shows on tv right now.

I have so much love for my tv shows right now!!!
