Random things!

1) Am still alive, despite appearances to the contrary.

2) I think I might have stopped watching Supernatural. It wasn't a conscious decision or anything. But we got really, really busy with real-life stuff, and also ALL THE SHOWS are aring right now. And we have this PVR full of things, and when we get a spare hour to sit down and ( Read more... )

other fandoms, winter soldier, marvel, wtf, spn, oprhan black

I've had a bit of a struggle with it, because SPN was so close to ,my heart for such a long time. It's really the reason I got involved in online fandom at all, the reason I have a LiveJournal account, and the way I met pretty much all my online friends. I've been so invested in it for such a long time! But it's been increasingly clear to me that the show is moving in a direction which just isn't working for me, and the disconnect between what I wanted out of it and what I was getting was very stressful, actually. Which kind of defeats the purpose - being a fan is supposed to be fun, right? So in a way it's something of a relief to find myself just letting it go. I'll always have those good times, you know?

The Marvel thing was such a surprise to me! But I'm loving it, and there's so much good fic, and I love how big the universe is, and the feeling like I have so much to explore. I loved the CA movies! I'd recommend them, if you get a chance. They and the Thor movies are definitely the highlights of the franchise, for me. And the fanworks! I'm happily rolling around in it all, and I have ideas for things to write, if I ever have time to write again, and it's great fun. Yay bandwagons!

Yeah, I think I have a different relationship with SPN now than I did back in 2008 when I first got into it. I still enjoy doing my timeline and clothing catalogue, and to a lesser extent the rewatches that I do. But, other than that, I'm not really as inspired by the show to create fanfic anymore, nor read it. I actually stopped reading pretty much all SPN fanfic over a year ago and moved onto other fandoms.

And if the show ended at S10, I'd be happy... part of me would kind of be glad not to feel obligated to do the timelines or clothing catalog, though, I really don't mind doing them - timelining is one of my favourite things to do really, it doesn't matter if I enjoy the show or not. But yeah, I think part of me would be a bit relieved if the show ended, because then I wouldn't feel beholden to these projects...

Projects, I should say, that I started when I thought the show would only be 5 seasons, or possibly 7 at the most.

I really should watch the Captain America movies. I've only seen the first Thor movie and not the second - again, something that I just let Tumblr spoil for me, because I didn't feel like going to the movie theatre. :P I'm not sure if I'll ever write in the Marvel fandom, but who knows! I never thought I'd write in anything other than SPN, but I've written Merlin and Sherlock fic...so, I'm obviously capable of surprising myself.

I hope you keep doing your timeline! And the clothes posts, I think they're so great. One of the best things about being a fan of Supernatural is the other fans, honestly. So much creativity and imagination and dedication and enthusiasm, and such interesting people :D

And do watch the CA movies! They are really quite fun, and a lot better than I was expecting going in. Particularly the second, actually.

Oh, I will continue to do my timeline and clothes posts for sure. I hate unfinished projects. ;)

I think with the CA movies, I was turned off by the possibility of too much patriotism - which is always one of my biggest gripes about American movies. But, I guess I shouldn't judge a superhero based solely on his name. :P
