I live about 2 km from where I work. On days when it's not raining too hard, I like to walk to work - it's good exercise and saves money, and it's a pretty pleasant walk.
My preferred route takes me through a little neighbourhood park about 3 blocks from my house. Last week, walking through the park early one morning, I discovered this:
Someone had layed out a maze on the grass, using stones apparently hauled up from the beach below. Some of them had barnacles or seaweed still clinging to them. There was no-one around, no other sign of activity.
I didn't walk the maze, though I did step on the first stone. Here's my foot, for scale.
The next day when I went back, the maze was gone, vanished as if it had never been, leaving only a few flattened places on the grass.
I don't know who built it, or why, or what might have happened if I'd walked it. But I did wonder if it was the sort of thing Sam & Dean might need to investigate. Was it selkies? Mer-people? Cthulhu cultists? Who knows?
