My wishlist - well, it's my happy place, shallow wishlist I'm putting here. Not the other one - you know, where I wish that all Tea Party Republicans were sucked back through the space and time vortex to their alternate reality where the words coming out of their mouths made sense. Or where I wish that Tony Abbott, Cardinal Pell and Julie Bishop might be caught in flagrante delicto and forced to resign, leaving Father Bob Maguire to run the Catholic Church in Oz by popular acclaim and Malcolm Turnbull to perhaps wrench the Liberal Party back towards moderate, compassionate conservatism. Or where Ass(he)ad realises he's unfit to lead a lamington drive and leaves Syria forever, as moderates from both sides rush to fill the leadership vacuum and peace breaks out all over. Yeah, we'll take those ones as read.
No, this is my wishlist for Season 9 of Supernatural and Season 5 of Justified.
Season 5 Justified - I am so looking forward to this. Not coming out until January, of course, so still a bit of a wait - but this year has flown by so fast I know it will be here before we know it.
So, I wish:
1. That Tim Gutterson survives the season, and with everything I love about him intact - his compassion, his honour, his snark, his brilliance, his competence, his skill and his PTSD.
2. That Cassie St Cyr stays around. For a few reasons; firstly, because I like the character. She's multi-faceted, bloody minded, and she and Boyd Crowder hate one another. Two; because then I think something will develop further between her and Tim Gutterson (Kermit arms), thus bringing him into the foreground more. And three - because I think Boyd will be looking for revenge against Cassie, and if Tim's involved with her then he's tied into the Harlan storyline. Fun times all round.
3. That we see more of Dewey "I got four kindeys?" Crowe. I adore watching smart, Aussie actor Damon Herriman play dumb, hillbilly Dewey, but beyond that, there's some thing rather likeable about Dewey. There's an innocence born of stupidity, and it leaves him saying the most hilarious things. But there's something endearing, too, in watching him struggle to play catch up with everyone around him, and trying so hard to find something he wouldn't even know to call dignity.
4. That Jacob Pitt's wish is answered, and we see more of the Art and Tim Show. Those two have terrific chemistry. Play it for laughs, sure, but there's another level to it, a father figure for Tim that we know he never had, a mutual respect and concern between them.
5. More Rachel. She is ice cool.
6. A little less Raylan. I love Raylan as a main character - for me, he's just flawed enough to be interesting, not so flawed as to be unsympathetic. But like any rich food, too much Raylan brings on indigestion.
7. Ava's gaol time - make it count. Let's see that wonderful character in isolation from Harlan and what it brings out in her, all her great strength and vulnerability on display.
8. I'd like to see them explore what fatherhood does to Raylan, rather than the baby being offscreen forever. Purely because it's so rarely done in shows like this. Women are often shown struggling to cope with all facets of their lives, men much less so. Let's acknowledge that this is not just an issue for women.
9. Wynn for the win. Any time he's on screen, I'm happy. What a brilliant character - so many sides to him, so despicable, so hilariously bitchy, but with moments of real humanity.
10. Tim h/c. Please.
Supernatural Season 9.
I'm just re-watching S8 now, and part of my wishes for S9 are growing from my rising blood pressure with various aspects of it.
So, number one: Please, don't let Dean apologise to Sam again for Sam's own poor behaviour and choices (cf S4, S5, S8 and probably all the rest, too). Dean is not perfect, by any means, and he pulls the wrong rein from time to time. Apologise for those instances, fine; but not the other.
2. More Charley, and let her survive intact.
3. More Jodi Mills, and ditto. (In my canon she survived S8 - yes?)
4. More Kevin, same. I really like Kevin - the way he can push back against the Winchester juggernaut.
5. I like Castiel as a character, but chiefly his other-worldliness. If he is to be human, please do not let that exploration degenerate into crass!Cas. We've already done the porn, the pain, the need for sleep and food. Let the exploration of humanity be more subtle, more profound.
6. I'd like to see Jesse back. He's a wild card that surely needs to be played, now that he's probably the most powerful person on the planet.
7. More Abaddon. She's wild, wicked and wonderful.
8. I still reckon Frank from S7 is alive. He's a paranoid old bastard - I think he staged the blood covered van and headed underground. I'd love to see him return.
9. And Rick Worthy. I need more Rick Worthy in my life. Vampire Daddy, come on down.
10. Jeremy Carver, you wrote some of my favourite episodes of all time. Please, re-discover that magic.
