Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan

Perrin is still trying to save his wife and contain Masema. Mat is trying to get everyone he’s rescued away from the Seanchan. Unfortunately he happens to have kidnapped their princess, who is also the woman prophecy says he will marry. And Egwene and her army are laying siege to the White Tower, while trying to negotiate a peaceful solution to their conflict.

This is the last book that I am re-reading, so I will finally be moving on to new ground when I pick up the next book in the series. Weird thing is I didn’t really remember a lot of what had happened in this book. There was a twist at the end that seems like something I should have remembered but it surprised me.

Truthfully, I skimmed a lot of this book. Perrin’s story line is boring. I wish that Mesema would have a point already.  He’s been in the background for almost the entire series, causing problems here and there, but without really doing anything to warrant how long he’s continued to stick around in the series.

I hate the Seanchan princess. Mat is my favourite character of the series and I hate that he’s prophesized to be with a woman who calls him “Toy” and who considers breaking the will of people to turn them into slaves a hobby. I tried to take into account that she’s been kidnapped by a strange man, but based on previous scenes I think she’s received a version of the prophecy as well because she acts very possessive over Mat. I do not like them as a couple at all (though that’s par for the course in this series were so many romantic relationships are ridiculous or poorly developed).

It honestly feels like nothing really happened in this book except for in the last couple of pages.

Oh and I hate how one of the Forsaken in hiding, who we finally meet in this book, was victimized.
