There was darkness all around Zoey, an inky blackness that was as thick as mud and almost as palpable. She could FEEL something, though, something that made her skin crawl. It was evil... She knew it was evil. That was all she could tell. She needed to get away, and she needed to get away now.

So she ran.

And whatever it was chased. She knew in her heart of hearts that she couldn’t get away from it no matter how hard she tried it would catch her. And she couldn’t get away and there was no way out the Gates were closed they were trapped and it was getting closer.Zoey woke up with a blood-curdling scream, gasping for breath. Sagging against her bed she pressed shaking hands to her eyes. What the hell? That was... that was terrifying. And all she could remember was darkness... and a presence. “Damn it,” she muttered tiredly, looking up as she heard a voice call out, asking if she was all right ( ... )

It was at this time when a very, very confused young man came wandering through the entrance of the tent. He looked sleepless, bewildered...but remarkably clean, standing there in his pressed white suit and shined dress shoes. He was young - but he didn't seem his age, somehow, standing too ramrod-straight and taking in the area with stormy eyes.

"Pardon me, I don't mean to intrude," he called out in a voice too enunciated...lyrical. "I was directed here. I hardly mean to be rude...?"

He wasn't even sure if anyone was here as he strolled further into the main room of the tent, picking his way around the mats.

Ashlin was relieved to hear that it was just a nightmare and nothing more serious. For a moment there Sunflower Man's warnings had come back to her. Even if it didn't seem so bad here she had to remember that it was more dangerous than it seemed. She knew deep down she'd be likely to forget that if she wasn't careful. "Okay!" she called back, relief in her voice.

She wondered what her new tent mate was like. They hadn't actually met yet unless one counted their shouted conversation. Ashlin hoped they would get along, but she knew from experience that odds were whoever she was she wouldn't particularly like Ashlin. Most people didn't, or at least they thought she was weird (she wasn't crazy, she wasn't) enough to avoid. She'd never had a roommate before either so really she wasn't sure in the least what to expect ( ... )

Zoey started getting dressed, her nightmare still looming in the back of her mind. She usually had a little trouble figuring them out, but they’d never been so... devoid of details before. A shiver ran down her spine. What did that MEAN?

With a firm shake of her head, she shimmied out of her pyjamas (an oversized tunic with the words “We’re all mad here” emblazoned on it) and slid into another sleeveless unitard (she seemed to have a near endless supply of them; this one was purple and had Capri-length legs), a pair of black shorts, and a red tank top. Over that she threw a loose weave sweater, also in red. She didn’t bother with shoes.

Making sure she had a handful of hair ties on her wrist, she ducked out to meet her new tent mate.

Better make that tent MATES, she amended wryly, taking in the awkward young man in the white suit as well as the young blonde girl dressed in very bright colours. It obviously hadn’t been the man who had asked her if she was all right, which left the girl ( ... )
